need some help... again.

hey guys,

surprise surprise I've got another problem in the garden. I've got 5 plants in 7 gallon pots for the last 3 weeks. The first two weeks after transplant they were growing vigorously and displayed nice 45 degree leaves.

for about the last week they have been getting progressively worse with striping again showing on the stems and fan leaf stems turning purple/red. leaves throughout the plant are droopy and losing color turning to a yellow-green with dark red veins.

I've been feeding them 410 ppm nute mixes but wasn't sure if I was using enough nutes. the 410 ppm nute solution breaks down as follows:

190ppm tap + 220 ppm of nutes = 410 ppm nute solution

my question is if I wanted 400 ppm of nutrients and I'm starting with 190 ppm tap water would I only add 210 ppm of nutes to toal a 400ppm solution or would i add 400 ppm of nutes for a total of 590 ppm solution?

I use promix btw and water for 20-30% runoff or until the runoff ppm matches or is below the ppm of the water going in to avoid salt build ups (a big problem for me in the past)

any help is appreciated, thanks.

Your good to brew up a batch at 600-700 ppm. 500-700 ppm is my Goldilocks zone for veg

Why so low? I usually feed aound 1000 ppm from start to finish. It may seem like a lot but really it's pretty conservative.

Sounds like a possible PH issue an/or nutrient lockout issue.

What kind of system do you run?

With a dtw or passive hydro system there's no need to go to high. Way easier to smoke em.

Me?

I've done DWC, coco, and hempys all at 1000. That's medium by most standards. I've been doing it this way for a couple years, always have great results with no deficincies.

400 is way too low IMO, I start at 1000 right from clone.

1000 ppm of what at clone? I just gave 900 ppm 5 days ago to some silver mountains 8 weeks in flower and it singed the tips.

Wow, maybe they're sensitive? For about the last 6 months I've been using a one part system of 8m floranova bloom per gallon. That puts me right around 1000 ppm. It's actually a little higher when I add cal/mag, which is about 75% of the time.

For a while before that I used a few different brands the same way and it usually comes out close to the same ppm. Nute burn has never been an issue for me bongsmilie

im in the same boat I use high Ppms from the get go, some strains don't seem to like it some love it and want more, My ppm is always around 1000 for all veg and clones and I bump it around in flower up to 1500, I never see any kind of burn either.

I stopped using promix always seemed to be an issue with something, went to sunshine#4 didn't like that one either then tried about 10 more kinds before I finally ended up using coco and I will never go back now.

thanks for the responses guys. i've gotten various answers on the ppm situation, at about 550-600 ppm i start to burn the leaf tips, not sure how you guys are able to get 1000ppm of nutrient solutions and not burn clones. the guy at the grow store said 1500 ppm which seems insane.

Same here pretty much. When I used to do DWC, it wasn't uncommon for the PPMs to get up around 1500 because of water evaporation. I did get burned on occasion though if it went that high.

Then again I used to go entire cycles with Lucas and only chang the nutes one time per grow, that was the day they went into flower. I remember a buddy of mine freaked out when I told him that lol.

Have you tested the Ph of your run off? I'd start there to see if you're in the lockout range for anything.

If all else fails, a flush with Ph'd water is never a bad idea.

Nute LockOut PH Ranges
(N) - 4.5-5.0
(P) - 6.0-8.5
(K) - 4.0-4.5, 6.0-6.5
(Mg) - 2.0-5.7
(Ca) - 2.0-5.3
(Zn) - 5.7-8.5
(Fe) - 2.0-3.5
(S) - 2.0-5.5
(Mn) - 2.0-4.5
(B) - 2.0-5.0
(Cu) - 6.5-9.0
(Mo) - 2.0-5.5

thanks for the suggestion motorbuds, a couple weeks ago the runoff was reading at about 5.8-6.1 pH @ 330 ppm, the runoff yesterday was 6.5 @ 350 ppm on all the plants with 6.3 ph 550 ppm nutes going in. i'm guessing I need to adjust my watering ph down to 5.8-5.9 range to get the run off a bit lower. seems to me that perhaps the 6.5 ph runoff is what is causing the issues.

Aahh, yeah that might be your problem right there. According to the chart your P and K were locked out.

5.7-5.8 Ph usually is the best range for your nutes in a soil less medium. Good luck, hope you get it nailed down.

Did you ever get a chance to flower out that LPB? I pulled one down a few days ago, looks to be fire :)

Keep in mind, every strain has different feeding needs. There is no suck thing as one perfect ppm # to aim for for all strains, its all trial and error. Looks like you're on the right path by finding out that 400ppm is way too low, now its time for you to find out what ppm is too high and then finally find the sweet spot for the strain.

PH is another one of those things that there is no perfect target since all elements have a different range they have best uptake at. If you're with the 5.5-6.5 range you should be fine. I grow DWC hydro and rarely ever adjust the actual ph in my reservoirs as long as they are within that range.

I've had about 4 harvests with lpb so far, loving that strain - it's the easiest to grow and largest yielder i have right now, even with the mistakes i'm making.

Cool good to know, the one I chopped seemed pretty heavy as well, but I won't know for a few more days. How was the taste and potency?

it tastes and smells like blueberry for sure with a hint of kush somewhere in there. i didn't think it was super potent despite it's frostyness, something i assume is a result from a bad nutrient regimen.

He is lying. This is insane. It would only work with a few strains and there is a thing as too much nutrients being bad for the overall health of the plant.

Our hydro growers tell me PPM's or TDS up around 2000 with some nutes in hydro. Different nutes different PPM's
