you got me. i don't know either IRL so mine was just a guess. and LG seems to be a classy gal from her posts.
the nudie bar comment was another observation. I was not party to the exchange but found it funny. that was the only reason that I brought it up

I lived in the town well right outside the town about 40 miles the Macomb Illinois is where maid-rite got its started well it is what I was told lol
Maid-rite sandwiches were a staple when I was growing up, Mom made them quite often because (I suspect) they were economical and filling (and delicious) wrapped in wax paper to keep everything together.
Per earlier request:

Grandma’s Maid Rite burgers
INGREDIENTS

DIRECTIONS
  • Brown onions until soft.
  • Crumble ground beef into a hot skillet and cook over medium high heat.
  • Stir frequently as the meat browns, using a wooden spoon to break the meat into small crumbles.
  • When the meat has browned, add the chicken broth, salt and pepper.
  • Cook until liquid is ALMOST gone, about 10 minutes.
  • Serve meat on buns with mustard and dill pickles – wrap in wax paper.

We're gonna have to try that one. My kids love sloppy joes, but I get tired of using Manwich all the time so this will be a nice change.
