Newbie query regarding conflicting research. Please help!

Hi all. Be nice, im new.

I've spent hours looking through the forum researching how to start and perform my first grow and have a question that I have seen answered different ways.

Can I grow a decent amount of weed (by decent amount I mean enough to cover my costs and effort) of a decent QUALITY using only cfls and no other fancy light?

Ive seen people here say its perfectly possible and others say that it will lead to disappointing results in the flowering stage and not very good bud.

will the bud be good enough to rival what i already buy?

I would say it is definitely possible...take a look at the CFL sub forum Here and look at the of the CFL only grows. If that beats what you are buying, then go for it. How many CFLs do you plan on using?

i was thinking about 4 cfls for one plant to see how it goes.

i want to do it but want it to be worthwhile too!

HI Nemanja that really depends on alot of factors but if you are just doing a small grow 4 to 6 plants with limited space 5-5 closet cfls will do great. I recomend high wattage 68+ for flowering i use 2 105w 2700k for side lighting kolas since cfls have low light penitration and 4 68w 2700k for above this works well for me with 2 to 4 plants in a 4-4 box i veg with a 42w 6500k each plant works well for 2 to 3 weeks of veg. Hope this helps you your first grow will be great with help from these guys keep us updated.

I agree with cfl dank, cfls work fine but you have to have enough wattage. many people who trash cfl growing tried it with what are basically lamp bulbs. Hereis a good source for 105w bulbs at $25 each and available in both 6500k and 2700k. http://growwurks.com/index.aspx. They also have good prices on other stuff like the $39 hood reflector. Do remember though, that you want a mix of 6500k and 2700k light in both veg and flower. I use 2 parts 6500 and one part 2700 in veg, then reverse for flower. With cfls you also have to have them close enough, like at least 3-4 inches and 2 inches is fine.

thanks for the advice.

i was just thinking about using the low wattage cfls and growing one or two plants to see if i can do it. do you think the low wattage ones (they are 23w i think?) would be good enough.

i want to use the low wattage ones so i dont spend loads on electricity! and so i dont get busted with all the excess heat!

You will be able to grow some good smoke just not dank nugs just have 4 or 5 26w bulbs very close to the buds 1 or 2 inches depending on Temp and air flow closer you get with low Watts the better a light meter will prove this just dont let your baby's burn

I'm just finishing up a micro grow, total of 78w(3 26w), and I can tell you with high confidence it can be worth it. I did have a radical amount of reflector, and that seemed to do the trick. Some cfl grows go bad, but if you do it right, the results can be great. I will post my pic, and hopefully will give some credibility to my opinion.

Never grow just one plant unless it's a clone that's already sexed or you could spend a lot of time all for nothing.

Judging from growone's pic i think its worth a go! But i will take on board what you said OregonMeds and grow a few to establish the sex then take it from there.
