Hi everyone,
This is my first grow. I am using a 1.2m tent with a 600w hid. My plants are about 3" tall now.
How far away from my plants should the light be?
Currently sitting a couple of inches off the "hanging bars" at the top of the tent.
I've looked up distances , ive had and had 8" , between 10 and 12" , or the hand above the plant method?

Any help would be grately appreciated.

I use the hand method, start at 12'' and adjust accordingly. Chances are with a 600w in that small of a tent, you will need it as high as possible. What are you doing for the heat? Are you using a open hood? Are you using an AC, or possibly have a lung room? Fans? All of these will play a factor when deciding how far away to put your canopy.

ok here are charts for u
these are lumen power ..........distance from the light in inches

now if u have it in a cooltube u can let it get with in 6 inches of the light before bleaching of the pigments happen
if it is in a open reflector u need to add 4 to 6 inches to the distances

here is the growers trick for IR heat made from the light
put your hand on the top cola(talls part of the plant).....have the back of your hand facing the light and hold it there for 30 secs if it gets uncomfortable having it there back the lights off a few inches and repeat

as for having a fan ......if u can u want the fan to have a feed of cool fresh air getting dumped /access to behide it .......it will cool the plants more effectivly allowing the light to be little lower for more usebale light into the plants lower flowering sites (like a 10% reduction in fluffy buds instead of 30% u get 20% fluffy)...........HPS lights have about 32 inches of usable light in depth but they have the best footprint of light
