Next step? How to tell when it starts to flower?

I know it's nowhere near close to flowering, but I was just wondering how to tell when it starts to flower and how long I should leave it flowering before I harvest.
I was also wondering what my next step is with growing, like how big it should be before I transplant it into a larger pot, and if it would help it grow if I increased the light intensity/lumens. I know I still need to paint the cabinet matte white. The light right now put out about 4500 lumens.

Key word-Patience.

Give it approximately 6 weeks of veg, or whatever your prefferance of size. You *may* see preflowers by week 4 dependant on growth rate/strain. When youre comfortable, switch to flower.

As for the actual flower stage, i aim for a portion of amber trichs which is *about* 50-60 days.

All of what ive said is just a very approximate guide as i highly manipulated the growth to my own tastes aswell as lollipopping, fimming, pinch topping, lst and supercrop combo methods. Find your own method that works best for your strain. Research, research and... Research!

Btw they look a lil droopy although it may just be my eyes... Check for under/over water symptoms. Im guessing as its your 1st it may be overwatering, weve all done it :)

Final lil note, optimal lumen rate is approx 7k per sq ft, 4.5k is about the "middle mark".

6400k+ spec of bluelight preff for veg, 2300k spec of red for flower. Heavier density with HiD & HPS combo, cfl's while good for compact space and heat management, can have issues penetrating the canopy and can result in light, airy buds or underdeveloping bottom growth. Ao if it seems the under is having development issues, maybe research trim and lollipop techs

If it isn't an auto flower it won't start flowering until you reduce light hours to "let's call it 12 or less hours to be sure".. So you literally set your timer for 12 hours of darkness or more each day and that strain will launch into flower. As GrowingShadow mentioned that plant is really young so it would likely take 2 weeks of 12 hours dark / 12 hours light before you would see "sex" which in your case would be 2 little pisitils "hairs" growing from the bud sites. If you first mature your plant by vegging your plant as GrowingShadow mentioned above you will see a much faster response from the plant after you change the light hours to a 12 hours light on, and a 12 hours lights off schedule.

McCready is there water in that secondary cup you have the planter in?, if so don't do that you will rot your planter bottom out. Also if you are watering often then stop watering your plant so much or it will rot and die., you need to let it dry out until paper light or it will die!

Your plant needs to be quite a bit larger before transplanting if you hold me to a how big let's call it 5 to 7 nodes total, then look at the root ball to see

I've been researching a ton lately since it's my first grow but I've been finding it helps me a lot to ask on this forum since some of the websites out there are outdated, contridicts each other or are for more experienced growers with complex grows. I think I have been over watering a bit, I water it fairly heavily every 2 days so I'll lower the water amount and change it to every 3 days. So it's okay to put higher lumen bulbs in? People told me I should have 4500-5000 but I wanted to increase it, wasn't sure if it could harm the plant if I did, so I'll get some more powerful lights.

I don't keep the bottom cup filled or anything, I just use it to keep water from going everywhere when I water it.

Just want to run this by you to double check that ive got the right plan. So I'll increase the lighting to 7k lumens, and stay on a 18/6 lighting schedule till it gets to a proper size, then once it's big enough and matured I switch to the 12/12 lighting cycle for the flowering. And also transplant just before it gets to big for the pot it's in now. Just want to make sure that's right and im not missing anything major.

How much water you should give depends on the size of your plant, by example I wouldn't give more than a cup to that and only water when you see the soil dry.
