Noob trying to grow

So I germinated some seeds. when they reached about a foot, I transplanted into 16 pots, filled with a mix of potting soil and topsoil, i added some fertilizer, 20-5-5. im using a 600w HPS light, temp is around 70degrees.

after about a day or so, i noticed the leaves began curling and turning yellow.

I rushed to figure out the problem. Some said too much water, some said too much fertilizer, some said fungus.

I separated the plants into smaller groups and tried different things,

They kept drying out.

now im at 4 plants. the 4 that lived received fresh water and new soil without the fertilizer.

was it the fertilizer that killed them? i read that type of fert was good to use.
from the forums and pics ive seen, it seems that too much fertilizer attacks the plants in different places. this is definitely from the bottom up.

now im down a month and starting over

not a great pic, but any advice would be great.

What was this fertilizer you added? It looks like things got a little hot in the soil from it. Keep it simple, dont over do anything, less is more, better to go a little light on the ferts and have to add later than to go too much and burn them. I would add something to make your soil lighter too, maybe some peat moss and perlite.

Your hot ferts killed your plants. WAAAYYY too much nitrogen. Your soil doesn't look the best either. You should only be watering once or twice a week till a little water flows out the bottom with 1/4 strength ferts at best. Once you transplant the new soil you add should have ferts and you shouldn't need to water for several days. Wait until it shows signs of needing it. Then add 1/4 strength at best and go from there. Goodluck starting over.

Too much nitrogen to add that fast. you should have added a 5- nitrogen and worked your way up while it grew.

Well i bought a pH kit for the soil. the ph is at 4 so now im trying to raise it. i got all the different stuff i used and checked the pH of each. Vigoro All purpose plant food, when mixed w water in a cup, the liquid has a ph of 3. so im throwing that crap out. I bought some perlite and some dolomitic lime (i hear that helps stabilize pH at around 6.5) Thanks for the help guys, ill be checking back often for more advice
