Nute burn?

Ok so I am still a newbie, and this is only my second grow. Currently using mars hydro 3000 light in a 4x4 grow tent, RDWC system. The humidity and temp are generally around 75- 80 during the day, and 67 - 70 at night, with humidity usually between 40 - 50%. These Strawberry Cough have been manifolded and spent 8 weeks in Veg, and just finished their first week in flower. Decided to try scrog with manifold, but thinking on next plants I will just stick with manifold and use net for support. Anyways I switched from using General Hydroponics, because I dont want to give Monsanto any money, and am now using advanced nutrients Connoisseur at the recommended feeding amounts with Voodoo juice, Piranha, Bud Candy, Tarantula, and Sensizym. My tap water naturally has a PPM of 300 so I still have to adjust the PH despite the PH perfect crap, and keep it around 6.0. At first I thought it was light burn so raised the lights but after 2 days it seemed the problem was worse. I doubt it is a nutrient deficiency if I am feeding the recommended amount, so I am left to think nute burn. I flushed the whole RDWC and am running PH balanced tap water now through it, and the PPM is roughly 490. So about 300 ppm for my waters natural hardness + 190 from run off that probably built up in the tank. Before this I had just been checking the PPM to make sure it wasn't to high. I figured if PPM is at 1200 and rising it was fine as long as it didn't get to high, like 1400. So lesson learned if the PPM is going up then add some water to bring it down. My question is can anyone else confirm by looking that this is nute burn, and with a RDWC how long should I let the fresh water circulate before adding nutrients again? If it has lockout do I just wait to see new growth? Would a flush additive help (KoolKleen) or make things worse? Lastly the most common question I am sure, did I destroy my chances at a good harvest?

General Hydroponics has nothing to do with Monsanto. They are owned by Hawthorne Gardening which is owned by Scotts. As for Advanced Nutrients, they're no better. They all get their ingredients from the same chemical companies anyway. It's not as if Advanced manufactures the nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, etc... in their products.

The "this nutrient brand is better than that nutrient brand" is ridiculous. Look at the ingredients and NPK. If it has what the plant needs buy the least expensive. People put to much emphasis on nutrient brands. You won't grow any better weed with all those bottles of voodoo, bud candy, and something named after a spider than just using Jacks 5-12-26, calcium nitrate and epsom salts for a fraction of the price.

And what is a flush product with the name Kool going to do in an RDWC? People use those overpriced bottles of sugar water to flush excess salts built up from overfeeding in soil grows and plain water will accomplish the same task. Just drain the system and refill with fresh nutrient solution. But by all means buy another bottle of something. The more bottles the better right?

That is all well and good, and something to consider for my next harvest, but any advice relating to the nute burn? Is it nute burn?

Ok for anyone reading this I "think" I figured out what went wrong. The feeding charts as I understand them now are "per feeding" however since I am using an RDWC and dont have to refill it during the week I am supposed to actually cut the nutes down to 1/6th of the recommended amount. Apparently other people on here have had similar issues and Advanced Nutrients responded with:

When using a re circulating system, you will be dealing with one of two situations, either the reservoir is large enough to feed the plants for a week without the need to be topped up during the week or it is a small reservoir and in order to feed the plants through the week it will require to be topped up.

In case of reservoir that does not need to be topped up.

Add to the reservoir the amount of water that the plants are going to be using for the week, include some extra water to allow for evaporation.

Mix the nutrient solution at 1/6th of the strength that is suggested in the calculator for that week.

Example: If the plants need 1200 ppm for the week, divide 1200 by 6 and mix the reservoir at 200; 250 ppm.


In case of reservoir that needs to be topped up with water during the week.

Add to reservoir the amount of water that the plants will use in 3; 3 ½ days.

Mix the nutrient solution at the strength that is suggested in the calculator for that week.

Allow the solution to sit long enough to stabilize the pH. Adjust pH

What I dont get is why would you get nutrient burn if the water for the whole week is at 1200 ppm, but not 1200 just changed every 3 1/2 days?

I think coming in too hot on a swap in brands is what did it. I’d say it’s burn as you suspect.
It really is all the same crap.. just bottled differently. But AN is hot stuff.

Yeah I am still playing around to find what nutes I like best. So far finding a consistent and reliable feed chart has been the hardest part. I mean seriously why not put a side note that says "if you are using RDWC use 1/6th the dosage if your reservoir lasts a whole week." I usually fill it up with 24 gallons and that leaves a moisture pocket for all 4 plants and lasts at least a week.

Cut back to 75% next feed and see how she reacts.
