Odd Drying Result

I got sort of a weird result during my drying process and Iwould like to know what I am doing wrong. This is my very first grow, so there is a lot I don’t know, and a lot ofamateur tactics used during the process. I am just happy I got a decent yield (or at least enough for mystandards), and that I can get high off of it. In fact I’m high off it right now. I hung it upside down in a paper bag for about 5 days. I waited until the stems were hard, but notbrittle enough to snap. This may bedebatable, but there is both stickies dedicated to the subject matter indicatethat this is the right way, so being a noob I figured I best follow that. My place is dry the humidity is only at29%. I know this is a problem just withthe growing process, but I am wondering if it is also a problem with the dryingand curing process. So when I cut it, itsmelled like bud, and it was fairly plump. Almost as soon as I started drying it smelled more like grass (actualgrass) than pot, it got stringy and dry looking. It still felt sort of wet, but it didn’t lookit. I can look at it now and see thestem through the buds where I could not before I started drying. Whenever I have bought weed it always looksmuch more condense. I suppose harvesttime may have some effect on that, but I did wait until about 60% of the pistolswere amber colored before I harvested (I realize this not the most accurate wayto judge harvest time, but don’t have a loop or magnifying glass strongenough).
It’s not that the bud is not aesthetically pleasing. It’s that if it doesn’t look the way I’m usedto seeing it, and I assume it is the result of an error in my drying process. So if I did something wrong during my dryingprocess, I assume that I am robbing myself of potency. Is that correct? Any thoughts on what I may have done wrong tocause this? Do you need to see pics tomake a proper guess? I should also mention that I am in a unique position to try any advice on the spot. I am harvesting my plant in sections (it didn't develope uniformly so I figured I didn't have much too lose), that being said I can try suggestions out immediately as a sort of troubleshooting method.

Thanks,

Dah

Ok, good to know thanks. I'm glad I didn't havest much. I guess I better invest in something with a 10x magnification. That makes sense cause the high is heady.

Pistil colour is not a good indication of ripeness, wait until the hairs recede causing the calyx's to swell.

Your gonna want a 30x or better scope unless you got a nice camera that you can macro and then zoom into the picture cause its the trichomes that tell you when

You harvested too early and.dried too quickly. Humidity is key to a proper dry. It should be 45-55% RH and 65-75° f. Darker good air movement but not directly on buds.

Fans blowing directly on the bud during the grow can cause them to become light and airy. They need to be blowing under the canopy and/or over it (between the canopy and the light)

No.this is not true. Lack of light and improper feeding will cause airy buds. More lack of light or light penetration not air blowing.on the buds. I don't know where people come up with this bullshit.

Agree. ^^^^^^

Sorry if you guys disagree but then, I only grow scrog so maybe we are different. There is little point for me in blowing directly at the screen. Air from the side would not penetrate. My fans are used to circulate Co2 beneathe the screen and remove heat above it.

You are full of shit and probably never grown a plant in your life. I also grow scrog and have never encountered what you are talking about. Please stop advising people about things which you have.no idea or.any real experience.

A fan won't make the buds airy. Bad genetics, hot temps, lack of light and harvesting too early will though.

One day I came into my op(grow-op) and found that someone had relieved me of my hps light bulbs. I quikly set up 1000w's of hologen lighting. I took a trip around and all anyone had to spare was two 1kw/mv lightbulbs that would work if I bypassed the ignitors. I wired up both of them with a total of 3kw's over one 4x4 table. The smallest knob was 10g and the largest knob was 33g. They stacked up like corncobs. Light penetration I agree has a lot to do with growing solid buds. Go with clones, they're not hollow like seedplants.

What a hater! I can assure you I have grown extensively, and not just weed! I also spent 2 years studying horticulture in college, passing out as top student and 2 years at University studying soil science, passing with distinction, have managed several parks, a golf course and a world famous cricket ground.

I keep my ballasts without boxes and I suspend them from the ceiling giving me a few inches to walk under them. Remember the caps are always hot and I hardwire.

You are another thread parrot and I don't really believe you. Your advise disproves your proclaimed experience.
