Hey guys! I have a few questions on filters.
I’m growing indoors and I still live at home. Dad wasn’t too thrilled about me growing but still sees it as cool that I’m growing something and creating life.
He DOESNT like the smell however.
It hasn’t been too bad but I’m late into flower and now it’s potent.
The whole house smells.
I just built this filter today because he was sick of the smell. I don’t have money for a real filter at the moment but I can always save for one..
it’s a car filter (engine?) filled with activated carbon (for aquariums). Shoved it into some ducting and then into my box. The “exhaust” fan (5” desk fan) is just kinda sitting in the duct.
I could feel air blowing out before I put the filter part on, but I can’t feel air coming out of the sides of the filter.
Should it work or should I invest in a real one?

If you are exhausting inside even a real filter doesnt work 100%. I got in trouble with the boss for the same thing. The little bits that slip by eventually accumulate. I had to add a dryer vent and exhaust outside to eliminate it to keep her happy.

Update!
The room still smells but you can’t smell it on the street on in the living room anymore. I’ll know more in the morning for sure but it seems to at least help!
Would putting air filters in the room help at all? Like the $30 ones from Walmart?
I’m sure I could acquire or even have my parents get me a scrubber if I need it.. mom wants me to start a farm and open a dispensary! XD

Check craigslist. You can find some crazy deals these days with the price of herb lol.

honestly the only thing that is going to work is a scrubber they are expensive but they do the job. The cost of having to break your grow down or deal with cops is much higher.

I have been called into HR at work before for smelling like herb when my filter shut off without me noticing.

Those air filters aren't going to work. You need an actual carbon scrubber with a vortex fan.

The guy just told us that the smell is no longer making it out of the room so it's working for him. From my own experience making a DIY filter out of aquarium charcoal pellets years ago I also know they work well. Price wise it's just easier these days to buy one though. I actually built a chamber at the top of a closet and made the front cover like a long box out wood with metal screens on the front and back. I used cotton batting behind the screens then like an inch thick of pellets. Vented right out into my living room and guests never had a clue.

Grow less stinky weed, haha. Green Crack is a stinker for sure. My first grow the whole house and everybody's clothes reaked for a few weeks my first grow. Now that I'm exhausting some air outside it's not taking over the whole house, just my room. I think @Renfro might recommend a scrubber like Tint said, but I'm sure he will chime in if you give him a minute.

I’ve found some cheap scrubbers on Craigslist, I’m just worried about sound. A little inline wouldn’t be too bad I don’t think.
Some questions though, so far I’ve only 100% wrapped my head around the inlines from inside the tent to outside.. y’all are saying I can just kinda stick one anywhere in the room and it’ll work? I mean I don’t know why it wouldn’t..
and how loud are the scrubbers actually? Like the one Tint suggested?
