Opinions on LED's?

They did state in the article they were impressed and watt for watt, the LED won. I'm sorry some of you have this fixation against the LED lights. I understand resistance to new things, especially when they cost more. If you take the Total cost of ownership of a comparable hid and an LED, the LED wins by being power efficient, cool, never needs replacement of bulb, produces approx 1 gr per watt. While the hid lamps are indeed cheaper, their total cost of ownership is much higher than a comparable LED.

I'm done trying to have a discussion of lighting when one of the participants relies on name calling, insults and all capital letters and still fails to use or acknowledge fact. I'm also tired of sending abuse reports for abusive language in to moderators.

For those that want to have a frank discussion about LED's, feel free to contact me. For those looking to argue, please don't bother, I'm over that and hope that Juicebox is pleased with his use of abusive vocabulary.

Im not trying to argue i just want to see the light..lmao..Ive seen watt for watt leds are better than mh but who uses mh to flower.Ive yet to see it compared to hps.Just show me that and i will happily leave it alone.Show me a pound produced by leds.

That's all I'm trying to say....

I am getting easy a half pound dried per 90 w. so then i would say it compares. sorry if you want picks you have to wait for next grow. i will do 600 watts on LED next to a 600xwMH/HPS set up. give it about 3 weeks and ill have it up

I've already provided you a grow that the LEDs produced a gram per watt. Please show me an HID grow that equals that. Most growers are happy to get .5gr per watt.... The great thing about LED lighting is that it doesn't produce any wasted spectrums. AND, the LED future is bright. New diodes have been produced that will outgrow even the current crop of LED lights by 3-4 times. The diodes are still too expensive at this time, but I'm happy with 1 gr per watt now.... I can't wait for 4-6 grams per watt.... That is probably 10 years down the road.

You can't compare hid and LEDs that way. Your 600w of LED lights will easily blow away the 600w hid lamp.

see.. what you LED haters dont understand is I can go and get what ever spectrum I want. make what ever light combos I want. pretty soon they will have the ability to oder it HOW YOU WANT

Yeah ok.Why dont you have a thread up with results if you say that then i would have been showing it off.Saying look what my 90- watt led produced so yeah im calling bs there.

for kicks. ill only do a 90W LED set up next to a 600w Mh veg HPS budding set up
Trust me you cant compare the 2.You will not be able to out perform a 600 watt hps with just a 90 watt led.You know how many journals were started with that and never finished because the hps will out perform the led.

Yeah all they say is "10 years from now" and "pretty soon" and "they are still too expensive" pretty much backing our argument up...we never said they don't work....just that HID's are the better light right now in 2010.

Nobody cares what you say you can do when the proof is there in everybodies face im sure we will shut up but its not so everyone will keep talking.

Any proof?Ive never seen it and im a goggle head
Absolutely....

Scroll down and find the results of the grow.... now, realize, a 205 watt vs a 400 watt were used. The hid had a 195 watt head start or advantage if you will. Now take the grams produced, and divide by the wattage used.... still following me here? Had the LED side also used 400 watts, it's very possible it could have produced 400 grams of bud, because 205 watts produced 203 grams, nearly a gram per watt. Show me an hid grow that can do that please, like I asked you to earlier. So if we were to use basic algebra and go with .69 gram per watt on hid and 1 gram per watt on LED, if all nutrients, soil, and all variables were equal, the 600 watt hid grow would produce approximately 414 grams while the LED side would produce 600 grams. that would be with the exact same amount of power used, 600w vs 600w. Feel free to Google up other completed LED grows and you'll find similar results.

When you factor in total cost of ownership, no, they are not. They are however a big upfront investment. Most new growers aren't going to spend $1,000 on lights. I can and do agree with your reasoning there. But when you look at power consumption, bulb replacement, ducting, fans, etc., It is my own personal opinion and that of the High Times staff, that LED lights are real and are here today. I'm fortunate that I had the money to invest in them.

Again that is mh not hps.Who uses mh to flower. There is no proof that it out performs the hps watt for watt.Hps out performs mh watt for watt.Mh is not flowering.

Absolutely....

If you read back i already said this 5x plus.

You keep comparing watt for watt, what about the manufacturers claims and that other dudes claims that a 90w UFO is equal to a 400w-600w HPS?
