when the nodes start growing asymmetrically they will usually start to pop sacks.

Different plants require more or less dark periods to flower as I understand it so it's really hard to give a definitive answer of when a plant will flower or realease pollen. It's really a combination of age/maturity, genetics and light/dark periods that will determine that. When you see the males you have about a week or more before they start dropping pollen, in my experience indoors.

if the little flowers are open they are spewing pollen. pretty much if you can see yellow petals its happening
