Phat Filters. A heads up for future owners

I am running a Phat Filter 6"x24" and it can not keep up with the recommended CFM.
I came home to the smell of a skunk in my driveway today. lol I went into panic mode and ran in the house spraying Ozium like a mad man because my neighbors are pretty close. My humidity was low and I had no leaks anywhere and then I sniffed the exhaust. Mother fucker! Carbon filter wasn't scrubbing. I ended up turning it down to about halfway and throwing a bounce sheet over the exhaust. It is keeping up with the stink now but that shit was scary. I am growing a Skunk #1 and a Pineapple Express so maybe the thing just couldn't keep up with all that stink. But I am shopping for a new filter as we speak. This is just a lesson for me and all of you. Do not skimp on odor control.

Anyone know of a good place to get a good deal on a Can 66 or 75? Cheapest I have found so far is bghydro and ezhydroshop.

Hope im not teaching you to suck eggs but here is an equation to help you get the right filter/fan for your grow room.

HxLxW=Volume

Volume + 20% = fan and filter CFM.

I usually go for the filter which is slightly higher rated than my fan.

EXAMPLE

6x6x8=288

288 + 20% = 345 CFM this is how much of a fan you need in order to allow for the reduced efficiency of your fan with the filter attached.

SO from this i would choose a 345CFM fan and then get a 400CFM filter

could make a good filter..as there are many small to large filters "do it yourself turtorials" in this forum.

also ive read that using dryer sheets is toxic to human and plants.

id reccomend this as a quick fix or added solution incase u do have leaks in the future or need something to help.

get a container and mix water with detergant and poor it aroudn the drive way/backyard/by your front door,even in front of the vent that the dryer releases air from. the best detergant that worked is Tide with Febreeze in it.

or to make it less suspicious act as if your cleaning your driveway and just poor some tide febreeze detergant and water it down..smells great.

and for the house i read to make popcorn/cook foods or a disinfectant spray.

I love eggs so no big deal but I was not asking for a formula to figure out how much filter I need, thanks though. I use a Filter rated for 500 CFM and a fan rated for 435 CFM in a tent 4x4x7 so I expect my filter to keep up with my fan. I actually had the fan set at about 75%. Now it is set at 50% power and it is keeping up.

Yes these are excellent prices. Just what I was looking for. + rep Thanks.

Thanks for the advice and I already use a DIY filter in my dry box but I would not trust one in my grow show. My exhaust is blowing away from my room through 6 feet of hose and a wall to outside so bounty will not hurt anything other than the usual stuff that my dryer gets too. And it was only temporary, I turned my fan down and the filter is keeping up with it, for now.

Can also try out Phresh filters. They are a good product and work like they say.
I use a Phresh filter in my veg tent and it works great. It used to be my only tent and flowered many stinky strains and never ever any smell escaping the tent. I could leave the door open and it still wouldn't escape. But for the size I want and the money it would cost I could just buy a Can, from what I have always read they are the tops. I will keep the other as a 2nd back-up and use it for harvests.

WOW then i guess the phat filters arent too good then?

Do you get Rhino Filters over the water where you are?

In the UK some of the best filters here are RHINO's.

They used to be called Phat filters but changed their name due to copyright issues and they are the only carbon filter manufacturer that can use VIRGIN CARBON from TIWEST.

Aaaaah now I know why I see all these older posts talking about how great Phat filters are. I will check them out thanks.

I actually just went to the phat filter website and found out why it is not keeping up. It is rated at 500 for recirculating but only 250 cfm for single pass exhaust. Doh. I guess I could blame where I got it for not telling me that but to me it is my fault for not doing more research.
