Poor Paula Dean...

As for racism I was always more concerned about the hidden hate handshakes in the back rooms. I thought self-identification by problem people is a good thing.

We are all entitled to our irrational and messed up feelings as long as we don't we act on them. Frankly I have a lot of respect for the racist surgeon I knew who performed flawlessly on any creed, color or race. He brought his A game regardless of his feelings! So it's how you act not what you feel/say that is what matters.

In the public venue when you are a star and your 'image' is an issue then you should expect to be judged by a different set of rules eh? The courts hold to that as well. So Ms. Deen, at her age, should have been sharp enough to button it up and act in a respectful manner if she wished to keep her job and business flourishing. Otherwise she can start her own network and sell her shows to those who are interested in that or not affected by it. It is a free country both for her, her advertisers and employers and employment is at will.

But what do I know I'm sure I'm wrong, or so my kids keep telling me ;)

What "shocks" me about this, absolutely nothing.
Is this something new? No, it will happen again and will continue to happen as long as people hide behind their masks {whether put there by a conglomerate or not}.

I am a big fan of the Daily Show, but I thought what they did to her the other day was a little underhanded. She made the statement a while back about there being a difference between niggers and black gentlemen; the difference being the quality of character. She made this statement about some older black men that were working in a restaurant. The Daily Show tried to twist her words around and say that they weren't niggers as long as they were wearing bow ties and serving her in a restaurant. She was making a statement about them working hard as opposed to being a thug on a corner.

She may have had her own show, but she was still more or less an employee and her actions reflect upon the network. The networks have to make a statement and cover their asses so they got rid of her. I'm not defending her, but some of what she said was repeated uncharitably. I'm not familiar with the whole story, just what I heard on the Daily Show, so forgive me if I've missed something. I did hear some of the transcripts that were in question and there was a bit of a wince factor going on when I heard them.

Honestly, I'm glad she's gone. I never liked her shows, her accent, and especially not her food. It was a disgrace and she should be ashamed of herself for promoting that sort of diet.

This is America, your free to like and dislike who you want for whatever reason; I just hope it is a good one.

I am southern and had many old school racist in the family and friends of the family and I never thought the way they did.

No matter what color folks are they all bleed the same. Just humans in a different gift wrapping.

At the end of the day there is right and wrong. When you make a habit of saying/doing the wrong thing, there are going to be consequences.

This isn't one little instance of poor Paula saying bad words many years ago but a seemingly long list of incidents of some real ugly behavior from her and her brother.

There really is no expiration date for karma.

There is so much more to this than her saying the n word... please read the lawsuit! The Food Network did the right thing.

Free speech protects you from prosecution, not other consequences.

I agree with you 100%, she should have been fired, even if it's from a solely financial motivation, I don't like racism but I think people can say and feel what they want as long as they're prepared for the repercussions from their societal peers, and I feel that the fact she said a word people don't like is getting more attention than the allegations of sexual harassment is pretty bad. Since when does hurting someone's feelings a little and being a jackass mean more than actual traumatic fucking incidents?

Miss Paula Dean? Take any recipe and double the butter. Pow, you now can cook with the same method that made her famous. You are welcome.

"I just read a book about North Korea called 'Nothing to Envy.' The book documents how a regime such as their's leaves NO room for any individuality at all. But it is well beyond stamping down human rights.

For example a slur against the 'Dear Leader's' height is punishable by death. No freedom of thought, word, idea.

Compounding that is the fact that North Koreans must look past all of the misery in their country including kids dying of starvation in the streets. If the government says it isn't happening it isn't happening.

What does this have to do with Paula Deen? Well as soon as I finished the book about N Korea I began reading White Girl Bleed a Lot. Page after page of White men, women, teens, the elderly, babies being attacked by black mobs all over America. The police may not respond but the press ALWAYS buries the stories.

In N Korea the truth is withheld to make the leader and the regime look good. In America, it is to not make blacks look bad.

Paula said n_____ when she was a kid. But tell me, did she and her friends roam the street yelling kill whitey and smash bricks onto the heads of families watching July 4th fireworks?

Of course not. White folks aren't animals.

Now explain to me why 13% of our fucking population gets to do whatever they want, lie cheat steal rape and riot on the taxpayers dime but a woman like Paula who busted her ass for decades to get ahead loses her job over a word she used decades ago?

Spread the word--tell the Food Network that what they did is Un American. Boycott. Our soldiers put their lives on the line so we can live freely. We have lost freedom of the press to a new era of Make the blacks Look Good. Let's not let the freedom of individual speech go to only blacks as well." -Vision in White from Chimpout forums

A comment on this from a racist forum. I was curious as to what racists thought on this subject. Very racist post, but it did make me think. This guy has a point, a racist point, but a point indeed. I don't condone this mans comment and I'm in no way racist, and nor do I think our government is trying to make them look bad or good. It isn't a race that does bad things, people do bad things.

I just thought he brought up a good point saying she didn't go around causing any harm. She said n_____ and that is that. She didn't hurt anyone, and I agree that a lot of blacks get offended far too easily on this shit. It's time to let go of the past, I've been called names too, but I don't make a huge deal of it. I've been called weak, awkward, can't play basketball, or rap, and other things because I'm white. Boo hoo, shit ain't true. That's why I agree that poor Paula didn't deserve this at all. If anyone was offended, honestly, suck it the hell up.
