Ppfd :-)

Thank you very much it was very informative. AI rocks!

One thing which I find important to point out is that that this article states that plants do better under an unnatural condition, ie. 24/0 lightcycle during veg.
The question in charge is if this is also true for Cannabis? Personally I like to veg under 24h light because I feel the plants grow faster. I also see no reason of why there should be a buildup of generative plant hormones during veg. I've been told that under 18/6 plants are more healthy and with respect to the article linked on photorespiration, there's some entries/processes going on in plants that happen only during the night phase but IDK.

HID lights will also increase their lifespan/efficiency when they're constantly on, and 24/0 delivers also more energy which could in turn mean less ppfd is needed, which, in turn could mean one could light out a greater area with the same lamp.

What pro's & con's are also there?
I can only speak for my situation.
I run 18/6 most of the time with 400w or 600w MH, this time with 600w hps. I haven't vegged under hps in a long time and wanted to try it.
My plants usually reach the saturation point where the leaves begin to fold about an hour before lights out.
During the dark period roots will spread much more than they do during lights on, how roots are affected or spread during a 24 cycle IDK, I feel in my case 18/6 works better and like @hybridway2 I will sometimes run 17/7 or 16/8 if the plants get tired early.
It may be different when running T5 or other lighting during veg.

Some grows my plants show no signs of being tired after 18 hours of light. This is what I strive for.
Why do they sometimes droop after 18 hours and other times not? Can't really say.
Could be many factors from soil quality, root development, watering patterns, feedings, environment and more.

I could have sworn reading through this that it was a thread about grow room temperature when using leds. Haha.

Thank you, I'll look into them. Honestly it's starting to feel like "we're" being sold parts of an already largely known puzzle when it comes with led grow lighting and spectrum. Or I'm just kinda realizing this more-so, lol.
This is do to technological advances. More led makers can create all the wavelengths needed to work efficiently & with longevity, more companies like Amare will use them. Then after results come back on that, the other companies will begin to incorporate them.
Thats the pattern.

Oh I see the "pattern". I don't agree with your belief on the "reasoning" etc. But then, I think you're actually trying to "explain" something other than what I'm referring to. All good :).

Ambient temps do not supplement ir in anyway though and ir heats a lot more than heat conducted from air.

Leds saw their failings and rather than lower that efficiency number bent science.

:-)

From what i gathered using my ir gun was average -2• Ambient on led leaves. +5-8• under vented hps (regular room fans on) That is why led users are chasing ambient temps hoping this does the trick for the leaves.
But like the sun, when an HPS light touches you, you feel the warmth from afar. Increasing leaf temp. Over ambient.
One reason some led companies running cased fixtures adapted active heatsink fans facing down toward the plants.
I think thats a starting point to understanding something.

"Being sold parts to a known puzzle"
Pretty much describes leds long term spectrum solutions.
When white was made efficient enough to use we used it & liked the results better then burple which was cheaper to make at the time so they sold us 1/2 fake sciences to justify that burple.
Now 660nn has been made the most efficient diode available when it was the worst & had companies using 630nm because of that.
Next will be making all other nm's efficient as well (at least Horticultural) & they will be incorporated into the fixtures. Making led spectrum the best available (when it happens) as well as increasing the efficiency #'s.
Have a feeling we will be sacrificing efficiency #'s for awhile for those who have the balls to seek that spectrum in a world of electrical efficiency being king. At least another 2 yrs.
Im rambling when should be wrapping presents. Peace!
Why, what were you saying?

What's your deal, or angle? The language/rhetoric you're using sounds like it's specifically formulated to address "led" only, and specifically, and also in a completely general (and vague) manner, and only in a negative way. At the same time you're... almost personifying "led", like it's a guy, who's lying and "bending science". It's a little bizarre sounding, man. To me anyway.

I'm pretty much in agreement. Just not on the reasoning...
so they sold us 1/2 fake sciences to justify that burple.
This sounds more reasonable. Lol ;).

Of course anyone could understand this part :).
