Pretty noobish but...

Sooooo just a little update.. first off my baby is growing good! It'd amazing how fast she's shooting up! There's a little problem with the dirt though. Since this is natural dirt from the ground it turns into thick mud and is basically clumped over the seed. If the mud/seed doesn't shed off by tomorrow I'm planning on carefully taking it off with tweezers. I've been reading through these comments and I would like to say I had no clue the pollen can spread 15-20 miles so I will 12-12 and make sure this is indeed a female. Also go ahead and hate on me but I really do want to set this plant free if it is indeed a female. I think it would be quite interesting to find out if it will grow and how much! I am currently on my phone so if I figure out how to attach pictures I'll share a few! Thanks for reading and if you have any friendly advice or you just feel like chiming in go for it!

Also on a side note my mother saw the cup and asked me what I was growing. I am a truthful guy so i told her I'm growing marijuana and will be setting it free sometime soon. At first I was a bit nervous but then she told me that the light I had it under isn't sufficient lighting ... How rude :/

In regards to the seed shell, I'd really recommend leaving it alone and letting it shed the hull naturally. I realize you're trying to help out, but you can easily damage the fragile root. And I'm not just saying this, I actually killed a seedling last week trying to "help it out"...broke the root trying to pluck a bit of membrane off the leaf and it was dead and shriveled later that day. Being patient can be difficult, but some things you just can't rush.

Good luck. Personally I like your idea of just planting it and letting it grow, provided you verify sex first.

I do plan on going 12-12 to figure out the sex but would this result in a Hermie if I went back to veg cycle? Also I just checked up on her and the shell is almost off! It looks quite interesting and there's a good chance I'll post a picture up pretty soon of it!

you wouldnt ever want to revert back to veg, you do veg for like 4-6 weeks , either 18/6 20/4 or 24/0 and than once its big enough you go to 12/12 or you can simply go straight into 12/12 but you would never go 12/12 to figure out sex and than go back to veg.

So after vegging long enough I will be able to find out the sex right? I can't go 12-12 right now because I don't think the sun is 12-12 right now...

Here's a quick little picture of the seed shell getting ready to pop off. Everything's being done off my phone right now so please.. bare with me :D

Vegetative growth is the second stage in the plants life following germination and before the onset of flowering typically about 6 weeks long. During the veg stage the plant is growing into sexual maturity and will be photosynthesising as much as possible to achieve maximum growth prior to budding. During this time the plants need to have light a minimum of 18 hours per day. It is also a common practice to leave the light source on 24 hours per day during the veg cycle and accelerate growth. There have been no controlled recordings of increased hermaphroditism with the light on all the time. Most growers use the full 24/0 cycle.

Those numbers refer to the amount of light and dark that the plant receives (18 hours of light / 6 hours of darkness). Anything above 14 hours of light per day will keep the plant in vegetative mode-- growing leaves and not buds. Flowering (bud development) starts occuring when you reduce the cycle to 12/12.

- Reduced electricity costs. Lowering the cycle will save money especially if you use HID lights such as metal halide to veg.
- Allows the equipment and room to cool down. Some growers in hot climates time those 6 hours of darkness to happen during the hottest part of the day providing some temperature relief in the grow room.

sexing

After the flowering cycle has been initiated and the dark period increased to 12 hrs/day, the plants will start to show their sex. This can be as soon as a day or two or up to a week or more. The females will be easily recognizable by their characteristic "white hairs" that will start to protrude from the internodes of the growing tops. The males on the other hand will start to produce small sacs that will later carry the pollen. At the very early stages of sexing both males and females will produce similar shaped sacs so wait to see if any white hairs start to appear from the sacs before final sexing.

you veg first there is NO sex in veg growth the plant is still sexually immature and has not reached a sex eithe rmale or female, it is only once you push it into 12/12 it creates the thought of summer closing and to produce a sex , so that it can do its plant duties IE: pollination or flowering for harvest
how many hows of sunlight do you get a day?

Now that I really think about it.. I'd have to say the sun gives me about 13 maybe 14 hours of light..
