problems with 1000w light help

i just bought a used 1000w hydrofarm. well the 1000w bulb lights up and it seems like after 15 mins my 400wers seem brighter. i swiched the bulbs but could the ballast light the bulb and not turn it on all the way? its an hps light older ballast like a white box. the light comes on like really dark orange unlike any ive ever had without a humming noise

make sure you are looking straight into the bulb.

no dont look into the bulb. The humming noise is in the ballast and you cant see the color spectrum with human eyes..if you are human (?) are you?

If the bulb is "new" it will be fine. I bought a used 400 HPS and changed bulbs right away to make sure I was using the right lumens for my plants.

yea it just seems dimmer then my other lights like the room is darker now with the 1000 the with one 400 just seemed wierd
