Pre trump before you even cared about it. Doctors make the calls, I trust them so should you, if you went on a trip last year to a place where malaria was endemic, your doctor would have prescribed HCQ in almost all cases as a malaria prophylaxis, though it is used as a treatment too, even if you had a heart condition in many cases. The mortality rate for malaria is atrocious and it claims millions a year, if you get it you're screwed for life, provided you survive, benefits outweigh risks. In fact in some countries where malaria is endemic HCQ without prescription and is as common as aspirin.

You have taken your propaganda war to the wrong place and are wasting your time fighting the wrong person for the wrong reason. This discussion was pre trump and even pre flawed french trial, there was a reason supplies of HCQ were getting low even before Donald and the right knew about it, doctors were prescribing it at the time and apparently it was a crime to post and report about it at the time. My posts on the subject have been balanced and I've posted the bad out comes from trials and even minimised a positive pre trial out of concern about the political situation. I've followed the evidence and I'm not getting ahead of my skis and neither should anybody else, professional ethicists make the calls on ending studies these days and they are starting to speak to some of them now. I was gonna post the who opinion on it but there is too much hysteria around it for rational discussion.
There was a shortage of ventilators at the time and they were telling seniors they would not get one, a death sentence then in the minds of many, fortunately things never turned out as feared in those dark desperate days of Donald fumbling the ball and limited public safety info in the news, there was lot's of panic though as the experts ran around with their fucking hair on fire!

We have wasted enough time on this vindictively motivated topic, I've told foggy to bury the bone, several times. You also know I have addressed this honestly and extensively with articles and timelines to aid your understanding. The Captain perceived it as a die at home order, because at the time some were projecting over capacity that never happened, thank God! Ask him.
Yeah I don't listen to people just because they say stuff online.

So all your little passive aggressive post trying to act like you are in the right at all as a non doctor telling someone who is very rightly worried about this pandemic to bother their doctor with some drug Trump is promoting and telling others to not correct you is not going to work with me.

Talking to your doctor is not such a bad thing hanimmal :D No need to get bent out of shape over it forever, I'm not posting anything on HCQ until a solid study comes out, and I posted the most solid and most negative one on it sofar, including the CNN story on it that had a most negative spin, reposted it to bugeye's thread too!:D Even argued with a guy who was touting it and said he was seeing 4 specialists and taking it with a heart condition FFS! Told him to ask again!:D

He's one issue, it was out of context the date was not included, it was long before it became politicized and merely a scientific and medical subject in desperate times, places like michigan were giving out die in place orders to guys like @captainmorgan and doctors were prescribing out of desperation and compassion. They have been prescribing it for over 50 years for anybody going to a place where malaria was endemic as a prophylaxis.
I've wasted enough electrons on it here to prove you are disingenuous, its just another way of distorting the truth, pathetic really.

Advising people to talk to their doctors is some kind of high crime in a time of crises, the captain was right to call you a tard and put you on ignore as a pain in the ass. :D
oh horse shit. You gushed over the crap and never let up and I was there early to point out you were making a potentially harmful claim. By itself not much harm but as a part of the wave of disinformation coming out about this virus, very harmful. I'm not saying you are malicious, just a "concerned acquaintance" who is caught up in the wave of irrelevant, misinforming and in aggregate, harmful propaganda that is hitting us. My posts were mainly dubious and "please stop". But you won't. So, I figure the best thing to do was hold you accountable for the things you say. lulz you cry like Trump when your lunatic words are cited. The denial is telling too.

It's not just HCQ. It's that ventilator thing, endless claims Trump will be impeached, so much bullshit. So, you are going to lose some credibility and for those who already had you on ignore, their choice to do so is confirmed.

You should stick to what you know. Such as mediation and mindfulness. When you post false crap, just remember the line from Shakespere -- "at the length truth will out". I'll be there to point it out to you when you make a big mistake. As you did with hydroxychloroquine.

So you know more than scientists and ethicists at this point in time with 40 international studies ongoing? More arrogance and getting ahead of your skis for egotistical reasons. I figure the drug is dangerous, if ya give it to sick old people on the edge of death, so do the experts apparently. Your not motivated by some kind of crusade here, your motives are quite personal in this matter and you've become a pain in the ass to myself and others here, give it up and move on, bury the bone foggy. We are like cockroaches fighting in the sugar bowl here at RIU, not many care or will remember.

Early on, there were plenty of experienced voices on this matter who said HCQ was potentially harmful. I read what they said and I gave a listen to the woo-woo sciency crap from that nobody 7th day Adventist doctor's videos you posted. It wasn't hard for me to distinguish who was saying the right things.

There is no bone to bury, DIY. I'm not fighting you, just the misinformation you post on public health matters. We agree on many things and think you are OK. Most times, you are right. Just not this one. I have a whole thread concerning the wave of propaganda shoved at the public. I don't know why they are doing it but you are an example of how people are duped.

There is no fight here. I'm just going to point out when your posts veer into woo-woo science and when there is hard evidence, I'll post that too. You should stick to what you know and listen to experts on matters you don't.

Not according to your recent posts, you are being disingenuous here foggy and continue to be so for malicious reasons, it is obvious. Slagging the CBC even had Burt laughing at you, for a news story I posted without commentary, your post on that one and several other innocus posts without comment make it plain to see, but I will nonetheless point out your motivations in this matter, when asked about it. Nobody else seems to give a fuck much about it Hanimmal is giving you moral support but that's about it, others seem to find the acrimony distasteful, though I've noticed you've become more socially skilful, so you must be learning something. Not calling people idiots and fools much any more, I reserve suck talk for socks and Trumpers, perhaps you should too.

If by moral support you mean posting actual information that shows the video and drug being used by Trump trolls is suspect, sure.

My "popularity"?

I'm not concerned about popularity. For the record, I think you are OK and so is Burt. Hearts are in the right place.

Good foggy, now let's put it behind us and work on those 5 positive social interactions that help make up for a bad one. Normal in all mammals BTW

What is the title of the thread you are on? When was it created? What was going on then? What do you think the motives of the person creating it were? Please read the preamble. What do you think foggy's motives are other than a sore asshole? He's been mean tweeting like Donald and similarly motivated, Donald is an asshole too.
Are you saying you did not say to send a copy of the study to your doctor? As for fogs motive, I assume he’s just annoyed is all.

I told the Captain primarily, to talk to his doctor about it because at the time doctors were prescribing it, it was early days even before the flawed french study came out. Times were desperate in Michigan as you recall, it is only available by prescription and I figured the Captain was intelligent enough to call his own balls and strikes, just like you Budley, I respect other people and care about them, I was motivated by Compassion. I cared enough to PM the Captain and let me /us know how he was making out when he went silent for 2 weeks while the epidemic raged. The poor bastard didn't even think he was gonna get a ventilator because of his age at the time. Only later when it became politicised and trump mentioned it did all this bullshit begin. I'm keeping the peace, ask the Captain if ya wish, he's been bothered by it enough, so I won't quote him in the text.

My only intention here was to address your misunderstanding because I respect you.

Again I don’t care what you post and I have no dog in this fight. I just found it humorous that you would suggest “sending” a doctor an unproven study is all. My doctor would find it, at the least, like me, humorous, if not insulting. Also as I said, your posting of cut and paste articles has no bearing on any actions I take as I get my news from mainstream sources or research for my self. I don’t think your motives are at all suspect, I just think you have an unhealthy amount of free time to spend on this subject here.

You are right about the free time thing Budley and the weather broke down this way and I have other things to attend to now that the restrictions are easing a bit. I won't be around as much for a spell as I've got shit to do and keeping this thing open in a tab is habitual with the planet locked down!

I posted a video by a doctor who was reporting on what other doctors were doing as was his business. I was amused at first when Trump brought it up, I didn't realise the impact he would have on the situation by publicly touting the shit like a snake oil salesman, then all the other shit followed in quick succession. It went from a just another topic discussed among friends into a red hot political potato with supply shortages and morons eating fish tank cleaner. I like to discuss science and it's possibilities and I'm looking at lots of stuff on this matter HCQ was one among many topics. The science was and is uncertain in this area and many professionals are lamenting the state of affairs, fights are breaking out among the scientists themselves and the fans in the stands are joining in. :D Look at the mess in the emerging data about lockdowns, conflicting inconsistent studies and how we waited for curves to flatten and fall, only to plateau in places etc. This is a scientific adventure of discovery as well as a tragedy Budley and like all adventures it has its high and low points.

BTW there were many reports of people drinking Clorox and calls to poison control centers after Trump touted that too, ditto for UVC dildo's, I can't find one anywhere! :D

The really sad part about this is that Trump never really "touted" it, he just fucked up spectacularly at his daily shit show press briefing, that was enough for some. I swear if he told his base to go out and kill themselves there would be millions of suicides, there are millions of MAGA morons not wearing masks now, so it tells ya something.

Kansas official says man drank cleaner after Trump floated dangerous disinfectant remedy
After President Donald Trump floated ingesting highly toxic disinfectant as a treatment for the coronavirus, Kansas health authorities say a man drank cleaning product over the weekend.

Lee Norman, the state health officer, said the head of the Kansas Poison Control Center reported a more than 40 percent increase in cleaning chemical cases.

“Including a fellow over the weekend who drank a product because of the advice he’d received,” Norman said during a news conference Monday.

Norman didn’t identify where the man had gotten the advice. Last week Trump wondered aloud whether injecting disinfectant could fight COVID-19.

Experts say drinking bleach or any other type of disinfectant is dangerous and possibly fatal. The makers of disinfectant products, such as Lysol, have also issued warnings against consuming their products.

“We’re doing what we can to counter-message against that kind of remedy,” Norman said.

Still, the incident reflects the power of the president’s influence at a time when people across the country are looking for information about the coronavirus and how they can prevent becoming infected.

Asked by a reporter on Monday about “Maryland and other states” where governors say they have seen “a spike in people using disinfectant after your comments last week, I know you said they were ‘sarcastic’“ -- the president interjected before the reporter could finish and said, “I can’t imagine why. I can’t imagine why.”

“Do you take any responsibility?” the reporter followed up.

Trump said, “No, I don’t. No, I can’t imagine. I can’t imagine that.”

I didn't recommend people take Hydroxychloroquine.

I guess anybody who did would feel foolish right now.

Talking abour woo-woo science if fun!!! It also demonstrates the effectiveness of right wing propaganda.

Behind the right's obsession with a miracle cure for coronavirus: It's not just about Trump
The conservative run on antimalarial drugs, sparked by Trump, is also about deep-rooted hostility to public health

So why are so many people so eager to get their hands on drugs that are clearly dangerous and may do no good?

The most immediate reason is simple: The people rushing the pharmacies are Republicans, and both Donald Trump and numerous Fox News personalities have told them these drugs are a "game-changer" that can save them from the coronavirus.

But there's a reason these false or unproven claims are resonating with the ordinary citizens of Trumpistan. The hope that there's a hard-to-get miracle cure that will save them speaks directly to the poisonous social Darwinism that guides modern conservatism. It reflects deep hostility to the very concept of a shared public good and a fierce attachment to a racialized ideology of individualism that treats public goods such as health care as things to be hoarded by those with the privilege, money and status to do so.

There's no question that Trump and other right-wing figures are pushing this hydroxychloroquine angle hard. Trump has talked about these drugs several times during his daily propaganda-dump "press briefings," as well as on Twitter.

There are many other examples, carefully collected here by Media Matters. This kind of repetition works, and goes a long way towards explaining how enthusiastically right-wing audiences have latched onto these drugs as a possible miracle cure.

But hydroxychloroquine mania also flows from the rigidly hierarchical view conservatives hold of society, one where even basic necessities like health care should be differentiated along class and race lines. Public health measures like quarantine and vaccine are viewed suspiciously precisely because they involve everyone on an approximately equal basis. They long for a special kind of medical care, one that's just for the people they see as better than everyone else.

This article is being posted for information purposes only. I'm not saying that by going ga-ga over the fake science about HCQ, DIY was deliberately allying with Republican blue-bloods who would encourage the masses to self-treat instead of demanding access to public health services.
