Has anyone else had any issues with the 96 leaking like oil from the thermal pad? Noticed spots on the plants but didn't figure it out till plants got pulled and flipped the lights up and heatsink and 96 had a lot oil substance on them.
Yes, I noticed on my new ones that 2 came with white thermal pads and these are weeping oil or whatever. The grey pads are fine. Both pairs running 160w each.

Failing diodes, leaking oil, yeah these things look top quality .

Think I'll stick with Cree, Samsung, Bridgelux, you know, real companies.

No, I actually thought they were the same material i.e. rubbery, neither are papery....

They sent me these:

Sounds like first 96 batch(es) was contracted out; they also had some type problem and sent out a bunch of pads to 1st round of buyers, but i was told it was becuz they had run out and wanted to make sure everyone got pads.

@Stephenj37826 , what’s the lowdown on the weeping pads?

I know I am not happy with being sent a thermal pad that leaks oil, so i have 6 96's attached to heatsinks that leak oil. I took the screws out and the 96 doesn't want to come off easily and I don't want to pry to remove. Really don't think running them is good idea, so now i have $600 sitting in a box.

You have contacted hlg, right? They are pretty good at taking care of customers.

I am totally happy with 96's. Small bump in road and new product getting up and going. Hence when I bought them it was pre-release, hic-ups expected I guess, For all the haters , keep growing with what makes you happy but I like the new, even with it's small problems that may come about. Bought some new stuff from Cutters and maybe I get a bump in road and maybe I don't. That's the great thing about DIY, It's my hobby that has a payback reward.

Fishing nylon will get them off, or thin wire.

Remove the thermal pad, clean surfaces with alcohol etc & re attach with real thermal paste

FWIW, My roommate sells gap pads for bergqvist and when I told him about this issue he immediately said it happens sometimes it’s called silicone resin bleed or silicone migration and one of the many possible causes is overcompression of the pad. He said it’s not comepletey unusual.

Idk if that’s this issue but that’s what he says

We’ll see what hlg says

Kind of needing to know from HLG what it is. Haven't heard from anyone yet and am pretty sure what grew under will have to be thrown away unless someone can assure me that what ever leaked is safe for consumption.
