Quality Over Quantity

Chad and Brad obviously don't want to flush.. takes too long and the test didn't even tell us what medium, nutrients, temp, rh, ph, airflow, or light height/type and cycle. Did they get a 21 day leaf strip? LST/HST? Scrog? SOG? ..
Just looks skewed to satisfy investors in commercial facilities..
Try reading the article instead of the title. They definitely said what type of nutes, that they grow in cocoa and the strain. Every other detail is irrelevant to flushing and drying/curing that you claimed was missing. How is LST or scrog going to affect how it tastes?

The great debate lmao.
Debates are great, one person brings evidence while the other tries to disprove their theory while never showing why their theory is better, its no longer going to be a debate seeing as lab testing is showing it doesn't change everything. More tests will be done and when enough folks see this the bro science will disappear.

Three months and still not flowering, that's not an auto. [EDIT] nevermind, didn't notice it was posted in may lol.

I've been growing for a decade, actually started with autos (Lowryder, Lowryder #2 and Purple Ryder). They've definitely improved A LOT. I've ran several Mephisto strains that looked really good and yielded very well, but there's just something missing in the smell/taste department, the highs aren't as interesting either.
With all due respect..Lowryder? Lowryder 2? Those strains are like comparing a model-T to a contemporary sports car..heck you might as well call them ruderalis..

take a look at how quickly a Terpy or Potent parent can influence subsequent offspring..

Autos have been actively bred for 30 years (a hundred generations) and you give them credit of some antique?

check out the diversity of these three Autoflowers and try to stereotype..
The taller of the 3 is now 6 1/2 tall

Uh... did you read the part where I said I've been growing Mephistos (And Dinafem, Dutch Passion, HSO, MDanzig...)? You know there weren't a lot of commercial auto strains to choose from a decade ago, Joint Doctor's Lowryder was one of the first AFAIK so shitting on the strain and the work he put into it is pretty arrogant. We all started somewhere, my journey into autos was with the LR, LR#2 and PR.

"The US breeder known as the Joint Doctor is credited as the creator of the first commercially successful 100% autoflowering cannabis strain."

[edit] LR came out in 2003, so yeah there might've been better autos around in 2010, but they weren't available locally, I'm not in US.

I did see that you mentioned Mephisto, but as soon as you said smell and taste lacked...I honestly had to scratch my head...The few strains of Mephisto I have grown have been great..Mephisto has even stated that their mandate is to find quality traits in its bud (potency, flavor, density) vs simply trying to find the largest best producing plants...
Can you describe in more where you think it lacks...? Perhaps you favour old school tastes and smells as opposed to conventional hybrids?
stating an auto was missing something in the "taste/effect" department is fine, but a bit of a generalization..kinda like a vegetarian saying they had a burger once...and clumping all meat together. (I realize this is an over the top metaphor..:) )
Could be lots of things..strain, experience of grower, curing..etc.
Sorry to hear that those experiences tainted your view on Autos..

I still grow autos, they're very convenient. Lets take Mephisto's Forum Stomper and Forgotten cookies for example, they're both nice strains; Pretty smelly, frosty, yields are big, decently potent as well. But not once have the smells/tastes resembled any of the photo cookies I've grown, the terpenes CAN BE loud, but lack that depth and complexity. I grew Bodhi's Granola Funk and More Cowbell couple of years ago and the empty jars still reek of chocolate candy and spicy dough. My previous round was Cannarado and In-House genetics, the smells were insane, so much so that I'm probably not going to grow them again because I don't wanna go back to jail lol. Close friend of mine that has been sampling my buds since the beginning actually said he was glad I'm growing photos again, because the autos were "kinda meh".

Of course there's a possibility that I absolutely suck at growing autos for some reason, but when I harvest 300+g dry from two autos with 185w of light it couldn't have gone THAT WRONG.

Sounds like you know what you're doing with Autoswith harvests like that

I've recently started dabbling with Bodhi's gear..Wow! Quality stuff..quality guy..I came across this video awhile back of his..made me appreciate what he represents all the more..

so...for another metaphor, comparing Bodhi's gear to most Autos..is like comparing Bella Hadid to an gal in bar missing a couple a teeth with a shaved head..chuckle..(sorry best I could do.)

Auto's can be excellent..but comparing anything with some of the Best Bean out there will draw question..

I do have a few of Bodhi's Dragon Breath Hash Plant and some Jungle Spice coming that I traded for, pretty excited..and will continue to seek out Bodhi gear..

cheers

Also to add more to the auto vs photo debate...

I have a gsc photo mom I just cut clones from...her & her cuttings smell stronger than the gsc autos that were just harvested. I also harvested 6 autos outdoors earlier they just hit a month cure yesterday. They are shit compared to the photos I have outdoors right now. Probably won’t ever do autos outdoors again lol.

Nobody in their right mind will suggest putting up the best Auto vs the best Photo..Photo's will always be at the forefront of breeding due to replication and "cloneability" Which is important for breeding...
In my opinion, this conversation was never about that..It's the fact that a
number of Autos have the genes to hit low-mid 20% THC..and produce top shelf weed..How often do you see dispensary weed north if 25%? Most are below that..It is not necessarily crap..sure there are shit genetics..but there is good stuff too..

For me, whatever I smoke, I prefer to enjoy rather than feel like I've been hit
on the head with a shovel and lost 4 hours of my life..chuckle

As I said..When you drink..are you always choosing Everclear..or something you actually enjoy?

cheers

Perfect post here I couldn’t agree more. It’s about the individual plant at that specific time. I like autos but the more I deal with them the more I feel they have their place. Especially after getting into cloning it’s like having a unlimited amount of autos

Some autos get big. You just have to have the right set up. 5 gallon pots if you have enough light are a must. Drop it right in and water. No changing pots. I’m using 600w HPS and my light is 30” over the canopy.

Heres Northern Lights auto from ILGM after a light defol two days ago. Broke ground 4/25

The Best, Fastest Photo is the Vashon Seed Company Eki Bird. It is a pheno/Mothers side is a really early flowering pheno of 80s Super Sativa Seed Club Early Bird-AKA M26. This strain has been grown on Vashon Island/Washington State since the mid 80s.

It is a super fast flowering mostly Indica, that can get really good size for how fast it is.

Expect the earliest offspring to be done in 6 weeks/42 days. Some will go as long as 49 days MAX. Some may e done in 40 days.

So you can veg 1 month, and flower for 42 days, and theyre done in 72 days. 79 at the most.

Eki Bird is also highly Mold, Mildew, and Rain Resistant/ROT. Its also the best stuff around for cold, rainy climates.

Is also better than average weed, and gives up nothing because of the early flowering.

Vashon Early Bird is a mostly indica variety from Vashon and can be cultivated indoors (where the plants will need a flowering time of ±40 days) and outdoors. Vashons Vashon Early Bird is a THC dominant variety and is/was never available as feminized seeds.

The % on the autos are horrible. Really no point in growing them
