Quit smoking - combusting tobacco

 So you are interested in alternative ways to consume substances that you enjoy, Then you have clicked on the right thread.

To break yourself from this psychological habit & ritual, first you must recognize combustion as unhealthy. We all know the risks associated, most of us know the benefit quitting smoking can have on our health, for some this doesn't make the process any easier, whether you are a light smoker or heavy smoker quitting can be tough..

Smoking tobacco is a psychological habit (for some) and a physical addiction (for all).
The act of smoking can be a stress relief for for some of us, coping with external stimulus e.g.(stress to meet a deadline, a problem in the moment you are unwilling to solve), and has been ingrained as a ritual (after eating or sexual actions through advertising), at the same time provides a temporary and addictive high.

To successfully quit smoking you will need to address both the habit and addiction by changing your behavior patters and coping with withdraw & habitual tendencies, along with finding alternative ways to cope with stress, depression, loneliness, fear or anxiety.

Smoking can only temporarily elevate mood, fading the sadness of stress, anxiety or depression away, as much temporary comforts cigarettes provide, it is important to remember there are healthier and more effective ways to manage unpleasant feelings we all feel the same emotions.

Some methods that have helped myself and others; for instance when I am stressed, I may talk to someone about what is bothering me if I am unable to come to a conclusion myself, why it is bothering me, what I am able to do about the situation at that very moment to alleviate the stress or anxiety, taking my mind off of the issues by writing down why it is bothering me, how can I not let it effect me, or simply how to work through the issue so it does not effect my mood and those around me further.

The alternative ways to handle these difficult feelings without seeking out a cigarette is comprehending why you feel this way, what is causing you to think the way you are, and how to get past the discomfort with out seeking to harm your body and mind.

Mediation is a fundamental skill in centering self, relaxing body and mind to realign the body & mind.

Exercising when stressed releases healing endorphins which do the body & mind good, also maintaining fitness, in many ways (psychically & mentally).

Breathing exercises is another form of mediation that helps to center ones thoughts and relives anxiety, through positive thinking & relaxation of the abdomen, focusing on breathing deep in from the nose filling up the belly.

Even when cigarettes or the need for combustion are no longer a part of your life, stressful situations will remain, it is important to take some time thinking about the alternative ways you intend to cope with difficult situations that may arise.

There are many alternative ways for consuming now available for everyone that likes & enjoys certain substances, whither it be tobacco, marijuana, damiana, salvia, we can vaporize so as not to pollute our bodies with tar or chemicals that may or may not have been used in cultivation or processing,

Here is a mantra to help you with letting go of negativity;
(focus on your breathing)

I am at peace

I feel relaxed

I do not need to pollute my body to let go of what is bothering me

I hope this helps those that truly want to better themselves.

Is there something wrong with doing it just because I like it?

I'm an adult, I know the risks, why are smokers always the bad guys? I even got one of those electronic cigarettes so non-smokers would stop hassling me all the time - didn't work! Turns out it has nothing to do with their fresh air, they just don't want me to have it at all because it's bad for me. Screw that, I get to make these choices myself.

Some part of you clicked on this thread for a reason, I am not saying there is anything wrong with personal choice and individual freedom of choice, I am just offering advise if you choose to better your self. I never said anyone was a "bad guy" you had, so if you see it as a bad or unhealthy habit (not meaning to add words to what you typed) then you recognize the health risks.

Of course I recognize the health risks, I also recognize the health risks of smoking pot, walking on a sidewalk, and breathing in L.A., but it's not going to stop me doing them if I want. I thought this was about vaping or electronic atomizers or something, one of those "healthier" alternatives to smoking commercial cigarettes.

Edit - the reason for that is the specific pointing out of "combusting tobacco" if it just said Quit smoking Cigarettes I wouldn't have bothered.

Smoking marijuana is not so bad, as it has stimulation of hunger, anti-nausea, anti-inflammatory properties, anti-convulsant properties, lowered interocular eye pressure, as well as relief from gastrointestinal illness, and this is just what I can think of at the moment.

Definately more benefits to smoking marijuana over the tobaccoo. The best part IMO is how delicious weed tastes, which is enhanced after quitting, but weed is always delicious and so many flavors. Along with everything else.

Well, it can vary easily take on that aspect, we can start discussing the positive aspects of vaporizing tobacco, that is why this is an open forum, I have vaporized tobacco and it doesn't taste that great (it was american spirit tobacco) and i found little to no effect, yet healthier to consume.

The electronic atomizers with the liquid nicotine solution aren't bad. They put off water vapor, no second hand and none of the crap you get from burning tobacco. The flavor isn't great though, that's a drawback.

My wife switched to the Joye Ego a few years ago and loves it. It took her some getting use to but they have over a dozen different flavors to choose from, just gotta find one you like.

I went cold turkey 2 years ago but started smoking more weed to take my mind off the cravings. I only smoke with a vape now.

I had got a E-cig when they had first came out, the nicotine was strong, ( I over used) used to get a cramp in the left side of my neck when i consumed too much, ended up giving it to a friend, I just quit for the sake of quitting, just so I didn't have to supply others and maintain a habit that did nothing for me, I have a vapor genie that I use for herb sometimes tobacco in rare times. Hey btw I think your avatar has done enough sit-ups while I've been typing this.. does she ever rest ?

Yeah, those flavored nicotine atomizers are nice, though most people are not even addicted to nicotine, its mostly all the chemicals that are added that keep most addicted.

Not exactly accurate, nicotine is addictive because when it metabolizes it causes false anxiety, and you react by adding more nicotine to satiate the feelings of anxiety. It's especially effective on someone like me, who has anxiety problems to begin with.

I liked my e-cig...you can actually blow smoke rings with the vapors...thats the part that makes it feel real to me is it looks like smoke...untill it went thru the washer, they're not very water proof.

I am not sure I follow what you are trying to convey.. You are able to quarrel your anxiety by simply breathing in through your nose as deep as you can, and holding for a few seconds and slowly exhaling. Clearing your mind helps. As you do not need a cigarette, keeping you addicted is good for the cigarette company, not to forget the medical corporations.

My wife just switched to the top-o-matic machine, rolling tubes, and 1 lb bags of tobacco...it's not quiting, but I went from $7 a day down to $25 a month...I smoke one when I drive sometimes, but I quit in '97. I fuckin hate those things.

Good for you man, though if you just focus on what is bothering you (if you are aware) then you will fade the remainder of the addiction that is lingering.
