nice thread and all, i smoke and am not going to stop but i feel ya here and what your saying. but one thing, you say "interested in alternative ways to consume substances that you enjoy, Then you have clicked on the right thread " i saw no alternative ways to consume substances i enjoy in this thread mentioned by you after that, just the reasons and how of stopping smoking. Which i respect like i said, just pointing that out.

I have revised as I feel what you are saying and I appreciate your attentiveness in pointing that out.

darkdestruction420 you are my reason for editing.

I am not sure I follow what you are trying to convey.. You are able to quarrel your anxiety by simply breathing in through your nose as deep as you can, and holding for a few seconds and slowly exhaling. Clearing your mind helps. As you do not need a cigarette, keeping you addicted is good for the cigarette company, not to forget the medical corporations.
You obviously have no experience with a serious anxiety disorder.

I have experience with many things in this life, when I was younger I was often anxious (constantly worrying about something that was not worth giving my energy and focus to), I chose not to let it bother me, it was as any other phase in life that passes if we let it, if you let something bother you that is your choice, after all it is mind over matter, by this I mean if you do not mind it does not matter. Find peace within, thus creating peace throughout.

This thread could have been created for me. I smoke. I know its not good but I am so addicted. Many months ago I started smoking American Spirits because they don't contain (supposedly) the extra additives that the other major tobaccos use in their cigarettes. Regardless of what brand I smoke - smoking is not healthy. I don't know how to begin to stop smoking and to handle the withdrawal. Anxiety and depression are tough to overcome. I hear what the OP is saying about breathing and focusing - but in 'real life' instances, it is hard to remember and more difficult to practice. The last couple of days I have been trying to roll my own. Its going ok.

Oh, and I forgot to say (probably because the nicotine is damaging my mind :)) that I also have an e-cigarette (actually two). I use them as a crutch at times but insofar combusting tobacco & marijuana is my favorite way to do it. :)
