Rdwc nutrients

I got one of these magazines in grow shop and it's the best source I've read on PH, heavy metal toxicity; and it explains why carbonates are bad. If you check your labels there are 5 sources of carbonates if you use all 3 bottles. The first 100 pages are all advertising (I don't use Advanced nutes) but after that it's good. Carbonates are on page 125. I'm not saying the Flora 3 part won't work; it's just easier with FloraNova.

I like to run complete lines in hydro. There is no soil to hold anything so if you don't give it, the plant won't get it. Also if you skip nutes you won't line up with the PPMs GH gives in their charts. I use Calimagic every tank. I never wait for a deficiency to show up in my hydro grows. Why take the chance?
You have any thoughts on the Lucas formula for flora?

Isn't the Lucas system the Flora series minus a bottle? So 2 bottles instead of 3. I've never used it personally. The closest I've gotten to using the Flora series is in my cloner. I used to put a shot of each in it but I've switched that to FloraNova and like it better.
If you can use it to grow good pot then I'm all for it. I discovered the one bottle FloraNova and fell in love with it in a hydro grow.

Its supposed to actually work really good. In theory, you don't need to add any cal mag even. But some people have found it to be a good idea.
I'm currently running cultured solutions line, but I'm helping get my friend set up and we are going to run the cheaper, GH Lucas formula for them.

I don't doubt that it works, and maybe very well if you take the time to play with it. To be 100% honest with you I never try to run the cheaper way. Too many chances and it takes too long for me to get a good crop to the flower stage; I can't lose it. I spend the money, buy the full line and use it. I'm not saying you can't pick and choose to find what works for you. Some people have to scrape for cash to get nutes as well. I'm not rich but I can't afford to lose or even hurt my flowering crop.

Hmmm... maybe I’m best off saving those nutes for the future and getting something else for my rdwc. I’m planning out an nft system for leafy greens so I could use the flora in that... I haven’t had time to read much from that magazine but I’ll definitely check it out. Thanks for the incite and info man

So given your previous post saying that GH is on its way out maybe I’ll do some research towards a different line up all together...

bingo. keep a bottle on hand but why add crap if not needed?? and why add cal and n to fix a mg issue?
U right u can add just magnesium like h&g one or u can add calmag that has iron in it too :) its a bit dfclt to overdose calmag unless u got nut and add like 10 ml. I use botanicare calmag and give 50% of lowest dose , never had any def. i might not get them even if i stop calmag but its bottle is pretty cheap to risk to fet a deficiency.

I had amazing grow with gh flora 3 part , botanicare calmag , protek silica , and big bud worked amazing. Finished it with overdrive :)

true but adding cal/mg also bumps up your N alot too.

If you say carbonates are bad, then why do you use calimagic? It replaces calcium nitrate (the industry standard for adding Ca) with calcium carbonate to be more "natural".

FloraNova is way better than the 3 part, but its thick/gunky which is a big downside. Jacks is better than the three part and much cheaper/cleaner mineral salts.

You have any thoughts on the Lucas formula for flora?
If you want lucas formula run Maxibloom at 7g/gal in RO using no calmag. 1 part nutrient that preforms quite well (as per Lucas formula) and the price point is only beaten by commercial greenhouse nutrient companies such as jacks, yara liva, etc. Maxibloom does build up salts faster and should be flushed more often; Jack's is cheaper, its not lucas, but its superior.

Never noticed it to be honest, but a very good point.
You got a link to that Jack's fert?

Greenhouse grade, without dry fertilizers like these, hydroponic vegetable greenhouses could not run profitably, comes out to about $.03 per gallon, whereas a lot of "cannabis" nutrients add up to $.75-$2+ per gallon. Using the nutrients most people use on this forum lettuce would be like $50 a head

Wow. Thats an insanely low price for all that.

I would want to know what the tech is in the DI filters though.

If you are curious about your water hardness, you can get a very very rough idea easily. Just put a small amount in a container with a dark bottom and let it evaporate. if you see water stains, your water still hard to some degree. You wont know how much, but its a rough idea.

I personally like haveing moderately hard water. That hardness will automatically cause your water pH to increase after you pH down. How fast it goes up will depend on how hard it is, how concentrated your nutes are, and how much you aerate the solution.

I take advantage of the pH rise by pHing down to 5.5 or so, then letting the solution rise to 6.0 or 6.1 max, then pH it back down. This allows your plants to get the max benefit from different pH levels as far as absorbing different nutes.

Are you doing rdwc? How do you calculate in the big bud (just a matter of ppm?)? What’s overdrive all about?

Yes rdwc. I dont calculate shit. I give everything at 75% based on their feedchart. So even when i mix gh and an its still 75%. Ppm stays around 2-2.1 ec. Overdrive is just a pk booster for final 2 weeks it gives weight and trichomes.
