ok, heres a lesson in reality.
buds aren't photosynthetic organs. leaves are. if light isn't shining on a bud...so what? buds are callyxes, which are designed by millions of years of evolution to reproduce the species, not to photosynthesize. leaves were designed to photosynthesize.
cutting off leaves that are shading buds is the same as starving those buds.
when the plant has pretty much quit stretching, i'll lollipop the bottom 6 or 8 inches, then if there are big masses of leaves blocking air flow in the middle of the plant i'll remove just enough of those to improve airflow.
thats it.
take the strings off and see what they do, if they pop up, tie them back down
