A recirculating hydro setup could save a lot of labor. My flood and drain system runs its res the whole cycle with only top offs.
also how do you top off a reservoir. never really understood how people know what to add of what based off ec or pom’s. any info on that i can absorb?

I have a circulation pump, that runs constantly. I also have a mixing line that comes off my feed line, back into the res. So every time my plants get fed, it also waterfalls back into the res to aerate it. Worked well for a couple years now.

what about powdered nutes? thinking of going maxibloom start to finish with silica and maybe a bloom booster later weeks of flower. but maxibloom is powdered. was considering a mixing plate but i’m not sure how i would do it on one of those..
You don't need a mixer-plate for nutes. This isn't mycology :) They are designed to dissolve in water. However, Its not a bad idea to get everything broken down. Esp. with Maxibloom. Which I think is a great idea btw. But there is something in it that wont break all the way down. I suspect its a form of cal. It's a small amount. I like to use a drill and metal coat hanger to mix my nutes. I mix them in a 2 gal tub before I add it to my 25gal resz.

You definitely don't need a mixing plate for dry salts, BUT it is handy. Set a 2 liter mason jar on it, put the lid on, when mixed flip the jar and the magnet sticks to the lid, then remove the lid and use your sauce. I like to use one to mix the epsom salt I add to my 30 gallon mix. I put a liter or so of water in it, weigh out 45 grams of epsom and dump it in, let it go while I measure the liquid feed components... Use it to make concentrate and then just measure that off if you please. I just like doing something else while the salts break down instead of shaking a jug or stirring a bucket.

Really? You're able to get 45g of mag to disolve into only 1lt of water? I have a hard time doing it in 1 gal.

Yeah hasn't been a problem, I could do a lot more, I know Iv'e done 75, the stirring plate makes it easy though. I think total saturation at 70F is something like 250 grams ish per liter.

Oh ok, Maybe I need to stir more/harder.

Yep. Thats why the stirring plate is so handy. Doesn't seem hard anymore when it does it lol. Stirring by hand for 5 minutes seems like a real chore since you are just sitting there saying "dissolve already".

Just to correct myself; It's my base-nute(Masterblend) that I have to water down more to get it to dissolve in a small amount of water. :)
