Scotch Whisky / Bourbon Whiskey thread

I find the jap whiskeys too caramel , tasting too sweet. I only recently buckled and started taking a cube of ice in my whiskey. Wish id done it years ago
This one isn't that caramely it has a hint of acidic fruits with a minimal oak taste and the finish is so smooth you can taste plum in the finish....

Ive never been one to put ice in my whiskey but that's me I do have a nice set of granite whiskey stones tho to keep it cold while in my glass. However I don't use them much as I tend to drink it before it ever gets warm lol

I was the same, of the opinion that the only thong you should put in a malt is another malt. But having struggled with the peaty stuff I tried a macallan with one cube and it blew my mind.

I don't want to taste plum in my whiskey ever.

You have to know it's there to taste it it's from a cask they use during production if no1 told you about it you'd never taste it

I like good whisky at room temp, any blended stuff usually gets one ice cube. If its cask strength I get it to about 46 % with distilled water, most whisky is at 40 % which I find too dilute if you water it or ice it. Cask strength is also good for disinfecting yourself should you need to on your.. travels

I've always preferred it chilled like wine cellar chilled not fridge or freezer cold

I like it like that if the spirit cut has heads in it as in cheap blends, the flavour in the hearts cut is better imo at room temp, eg the Macallan Don mentioned takes the smallest hearts cut of all whisky at (I think but im half a bottle in and vaping gorilla glue 4) 16 %, something like glenmorangie needs a slight temp to show its ginger spice and because its a decent spirit cut there are no bad flavours

I love me some Bulleit, Pappy, Basil Hayden. I realize these aren't "scotch" but i had to post because i'm jonesing as Ive begum my annual 30 day alcohol free period.

It hurts a lot but I get slimmer, sleep better and catch a great buzz when it's over. Anyone else do a booze fast?

yeah I did one for 2 years, lol so boring, really like the American whiskey ive tried just not so available here in the past. Personally I love the vanilla from he new oak bourbons as long as the tannins are in check cos we are not used to them

Lol, i did a 3 year booze fast once. When i went back to it i found my response was far more reasonable.

The aged rums can rival the tasty complexities that make bourbons, ryes, scotch etc so delicious.

anyone into their Ardbegs, the uigeadail and corryvreckan cask strength whisky, worth the money imo, just took the mrs out for slap up seafood lunch on the Kawasaki and she dropped the glenfarclas 15 was gonna drink with you lot later, she managed to save half of it but it took all the dye out of the plastic bag and now its dark green, got to run it thru my airstill to make it white dog again

I've very little time for blends, may as well drink Jamesons. Chivas regal is for folks abroad that think they're into whiskey.

Ever try the Glenfarclas 105? If not you should.

Just redistilled the glenfarclas 15 which broke in a bag and went green, tastes exactly like it should except it's white

Haha smart moves man.

I'm having a while off the drink. Drank way too much double IPA last week, before you know it you've done 30 notes on 3 pints.

Tenner a pint is new territory to me, Ffs last time I was buying ale was £3 thought that was steep

Its the duty mate, its like a pound a % after 6 or something. Mind I drink em slowly and enjoy them while my buddies do about double the volume and 2/3 the percentage. I cant be arsed pissing every 5 seconds.

I'm just supping a lovely broadoak perry atm. Right refreshing on a day like this.
