seed germination, HOW LONG?

hi,can any1 tell me how long it normaly takes for a seedling to pop through the soil?? i germd in a plate and planted once the sprout was about 1/4 inch.

is it best to keep it in the dark now or just normal daylight??

at the moment its in the gro box dark at 75''f

When your seed has poped out of the shell, then you put it into the soil about a fingernail depth, with 18/6 light......

thankyou for the reply, i kno all bout the germ process but wasnt sure wetha to give it light as soon as it was planted, nice1 just put the 18/6 on, is there anything u reccomend i do or b carefull with in the first week or 2?? once again thanx for the help!! taffo

it wont need light until it breaks through the soil, dont over water

IVE ALREADY PUT THE CFL'S ON NOW about 10mins ago, will it do it any harm? i.e stop it growing? or can i leave the light on now?? sorry for the dumb question lol, this is my second grow but my last plant was given to me 2wks old so this bit is new 2 mw, thankyou

I germ my seeds in a 16oz plastic cup of pro-mix and distilled water, putting the seed a milimeter under the surface then covering the cup in Glad Cling wrap. The Cling wrap keeps the moisture in, I put the cups right under my 1000W HID bulb and the heat warms up the water and you can see condensation on the cling wrap. I figure this warms the seeds the same way the sun would, then the dark period at night the same as nature.

I've never gone more than 3 days to pop the surface, I've had one seed pop in less than 24 hours. The only seed I ever lost was one that I put in upside down and the root grew up and died before I could turn it around.

Lots of great ways to germ seeds, I've tried a few of them and this is the way I find easiest and most successful.

thanx man!! the seed popped in 30hrs so planted it bout 5mm. its under 24 hr cfl rite now!!!!!!!!!!
