Should I go with a 5x9 or a 8x8?

My space is 10x10, but I didn't want to do a full 10x10 grow tent.

I would like to do max 10 plants and minimum 6

- What is the maximum I can do in each size tent?

- I'm planning on going with HLG 550 V2R, how many of these will I need?

- I was thinking of growing the plants in 7 gallon bags (yay or nay?)

- Still unsure on what I should use for smell/ventilation

Anything else I am missing?

I don't have that much space to work with, but I would get the 8x8 with 4 HLG 550's. That would be sick.

Two 5x5's.

One for flower, the other for clones and all vegetative growth (and a couple of auto flowering plants too if you want as in a 5x5' you'll likely have some unused space).

Get yourself set up on a perpetual grow cycle.

yeah, like spek said above you have a few options.

best ones i can think of:
1) 4x8 for flower, 2 hlg 550rs. 8 plants, 3-5gal bags. 6-8" fan/filter. would have to do all ur vegging in whatever other space u have

2) 5x5 for flower with an hlg 650r, 3x3 for veg with some flourescent 6400k t5 fixture ,4-6 plants 3-5gal bags, one 6" fan/filter combo, one four inch fan for the veg tent. i'd prolly go with this option.

How come not doing everything in one tent? (obviously I'm still new to this)

What fans/filters are most recommenced? I've seen the AC infinity thrown around but looking to see if there is anything else

those are the ones everyone uses. i've used cheap ones from a company called hurricane from amazon and theyve worked for years. for filters i use PHRESH. one tip its best to oversize your fan/filter and run them low for noise/smell filtration purposes.

so if u have a tent thats 175 cu feet you might get a fan thats like 450 cfm or even more. and u always want your filter to have a higher CFM rating than your fan.

Before you start buying stuff, I highly recommend doing a whole bunch of research. Here's a good starting place: https://growweedeasy.com

Honestly... this practice can get very costly very quickly. Too many new growers just start making purchases with no idea how everything ties together, then after their first grow, they often give up because they bought the wrong things and everything failed, or much of the stuff they bought is now on a shelf because they had to re-buy everything.

Research, research some more, then ask questions, then make all of the basic requirement purchases. Then plant seeds.

So maybe my input will be of some use.
Get the 10x10 and do a smaller footprint inside it like I did imo. Odd sized tents can get really pricey or difficult to find.
I stated with 12 sites filling the whole tent and it was a nightmare to work inside it. I cut the setup in half and centered it. Plenty of room on each side to walk around and work. Ive loved the new setup.
Here's a few pics on this last crop. 6 plants in a roughly 5x9 space.

The more I research the more questions and overwhelming this seems to get! lol

I've been checking and reading that site as well.

I'll be sure to ask some more questions when I'm ready!

thank you

I'm not against this setup.

However, as it seems most people are recommending two different tents, are you able to do veg/clones and flowering in this one setup, or doyou have another setup for that?

I have three separate tents/setups. One for each stage. This is just my flower room now, but it was a full cycle tent in the beginning of its life.
I have different ones because I'm hydro and growing seedlings in the full-sized 130 gallon system was hugely inefficient and so I can overlap grows if I want to, but there's nothing wrong with running the whole grow in 1 space imo. You dont need much space at all for clones. Mine are in a 24"x36" tabletop tent. It would easily fit on a small table in the back corner of the big tent.
You can start them all clustered together in the center under 1 light and spread them out and add lights as they grow to save on electricity.

I do as well. My clone tent sounds like yours... it's a 2x3x3'.

I've got two complete setups like this, the only thing shared between my "production" and "experiments" environments is the clone tent. Each environment has a 4x4' for flower, and 2x4x5' for veg.

In my experiments environment, I do breeding along with numerous various tests (force plants root bound, over/under fertilization etc). I also test my custom grow environment controllers here.

In production environment, it's straight up growing. Perpetual cycle, harvesting two plants every five weeks on a two week clone rooting and eight week veg schedule. My most stable version of my grow controllers runs these two tents (I've been working on two patent applications over the last month or so, as they are much different than typical controllers on the market).

So, I'm going to go with the 5x9 and just do a full-cycle - I'm only here for half of the year, and half out of the country; so it's fine for me.

I am thinking this

  • 5x9 grow tent (do full cycle)
  • 8 plants (is this good or can I do maybe 10?)
  • 2 HLG 550 V2R
  • 7 gallon soil bags
  • AC infinity 8"

Let me know your suggestions, thanks guys!

Plant count is entirely up to how big or small you want to grow them. Ive set up 4x8 tents for others to run 4 or 8. You gotta keep in mind that you won't really be able to get into a tent that size and do much around the plants and it can difficult to deal with plants in the back row.
8-10 small plants with a short veg would work. Personally I'd run 4 bigger ones in a row so I could reach everything by just rotating pots or whatever.

2 550s will be a tad on the lighter side of how much you'd want, but if you run them closer they should still rock that space.

If I were to run the 4 plants, what size soil bags would you recommend?

In a 4x8 I'd go with either two monsters at a 4x4 a piece or 8 smaller at 2x2 a piece, it makes the footprint the same for each plant otherwise it gets a little out of whack with spacing. My 4x4 girls are getting lots of soil in next grow - 160 litres but I won't be fertilizing either. 8 plants in that space I would use 7 or 10 gal.
