Small Light for Cloning.

Hey everyone, first let me take a moment to wish everyone a healthy and Happy Easter!

Down to business as the title says I am looking to buy or build a small LED light for cloning. The other night chatting with two gentlemen here on the forum I bought a Clone King 36 site cloning machine. I have no experience with cloning but decided to dive in head first. I know I need some form of light but not too much.

What I am looking at is building a small LED fixture. Here is what I am thinking

HLG QB228 V2 BSPEC quantum board paired with a HLG-60H-54 driver.

Does that sound like a plan? I chose the driver because its dimmable. If someone has another recommendation I will gladly listen to your opinions.

Also what do I need to put this together?
On HLG website they have a listing of drivers, is there a preferred seller? Maybe one that supports the forum?

If someone has another idea that I should look into I would happily entertain those as well.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Sounds like it would work great, the qb120 or even the 132 would be perfect as well, could just run one over the cloner with 60 watts and have 3 for whatever else you want todo

That driver would work fine.

A QB and 60W driver is way overkill for clones. All you need are two or three 1' strips ($2.80 a piece for Gen 2 EB) and an 8 or 12 watt MeanWell APC ($5 or $6 from TRC). You could build the whole thing for under $20 depending on what kind of hardware you have laying around.
I like what you have to say.

TRC = trcelectronics.com they are the US distributor for MeanWell I think. Digikey, for instance, has the same drivers for a bit more money ($7.57 for APC-12-350) but shipping is probably less. I just like TRC's site for looking up drivers and they have good support, buy your drivers there if you're lighting up a warehouse.

Fluorescents of all types have been obsolete for years. You can get low levels of diffuse light with LED strips with less cost, half the heat, the strips don't need replacing, no mercury, lower profile, etc...

Low light is key, too much light and your clones won't root. They just need enough to keep them alive and not flowering. I have 40W of Gen 2 EB strips 20" over the 2 sq ft vegging area where the cloner is and I have to put colored plastic on top of cloner to dim the light.

Thank you Ronny, thank you for being a good man!

Sorry couldn't resist, thats one of my favorite lines from that movie. I really like your idea of the strips and am going to look into it. Thanksfor sorting me out on what TRC means.

Hah, I literally picked this name by going to Wikipedia and hitting "random page." Watched the movie later, horrible even by Seth Rogan movie standards!!

Nothing beats the strips for small spaces! The previous generation Bridgelux ones are so cheap!
