I have a SMD 5050 LED Portable light and I have searched the web but can't find anything that tells me if it's effective for growing plants... I would just like to know if it would be good alongside other lights..

Does anyone have any knowledge of this?

Thx in advance

5050 is a chip size. I'm guessing of it's cool white good for veg and warm white good for flower/both. Pics or link?
Hey,

I have done a few grows with similar chips. I use the SMD5730, a bit more powerfull than the 5050 but same approach.

Don't expect great results, but it's a fun project. Plus, since these lights don't produce heat you can have all the plant smashed against the lights, no prob.
That's good to hear buddy.. I have seen a bunch of strip lights for sale cheap online so I may get some..

So these kinds of lights would be a great secondary light source for my plants? Currently the only lights i have are low wattage e27 bulbs but it seems they are doing well. I have 8 total(3 CFL and 5 LED) and my first grow is in second week of flowering and it's doing way better than I thought it would.

I have my first Auto in the seedling stage right now so that's gonna be fun. How much light do u recommend using during the seedling stage? I wanna put as much as possible on it to make it grow faster..

Led strips are fine if you them have close to your plants, 3 inches or so. You can use them as secondary or main lights, I use as main light and I'm having better results than with CFLs, plus, dissipated heat is minimal.
Seedlings with less than 100W will do fine, keep light close, not too close or plants will suffer with heat.

Modern e27 LED bulbs are great.

If you're in EU you can get the Philips 13w one that puts out 1521 lumens, if you remove the diffuser it's even more efficient.
Otherwise in the US you're stuck with 103-110 lm/w Philips bulbs. (which are still great)
