So...Are We Just Supposed To Forget That This Forum Was Going To Be Closed?

What fraction of the threads in here are closed, 1 in 100?
inconsequential. the new trend in modding protocol which started this week seems to be to shut down a thread the second someone hurls a personal attack.

on those new ground rules, i can't see how any topics will remain open for long.

thats pretty much the core of my point right there. unless the habitual bullies suddenly feel the spirit of christmas, and their hearts grow 3 sizes that day, how is it possible for this arrangement to work out? on those grounds they might be better off just shutting it down rather than witness the trainwreck which would ensue.

I just had a great idea on how to keep this positive....Make the section named WEED politics. I mean this is a growing site who really cares about the other stuff and if you do im sure cnn or msnbc or some POLITICS based site might be more your style.

Personaly I dont care what sarah palin or obama say unless its "free the weed" and to be honest nobody should have to weed threw 100 pages of dick swinging contests to make sure sombody doesnt get offended. If I was a mod and had to read threw all of that stuff to make sure some infant didnt start calling people names andits a chain reaction of violation and bans(witch takes time and this is a free site). So if closing this section saved me 5 hours of sifting and banning and reading pointless shit that has nothing to do with anybody everyday or growing witch is why im prolly a mod on a grow site.........Yep id close the shit.

If anyone is offended, they can just use the report button. No need to read through a 100 pages.

If someone doesn't like someone else's politics, and don't want to read their posts, then we also have the ignore button. Problem solved.

i find it especially sad that the only threads which have contained consistently civil discussions have been in threads identical to this,
discussing the possible closure of the forum. kinda like an abusing husbands in the hospital waiting room with flowers and puppy-dog eyes
and a woeful tale of how the forum just fell off a ladder, down the stairs, and into traffic :p

I haven't seen any threads that were closed the second someone hurled a personal attack. I've seen many threads where fdd stepped in and warned people, they kept going, so they got infractions, and then wanted to bitch about THOSE...

I just think it's unfair to say they've been closing threads in that manner when I've seen them let threads go on way longer than they SHOULD have.

You still utilize this ancient paradigm. What a chip on the old shoulder. You're only doing this because people made fun of your idol.

Remember, most of us see beyond Republican/Democrat. I see Obama for what he is - a politician. But his ideologies are what matter. I could care less for the person (within reason). I vote for ideology. Nobody here cares about you bashing Obama - who gives a shit. We are concerned by your lack of logical reasoning and argument. We are concerned by your insults. We are concerned by your inability to have a civil discussion.

ignore only works when 2 otherwise rational individuals have a mutual hair across their asses about eachother.

it does not work in a generally hostile forum where personal attacks are commonplace and hurled at anyone who doesn't agree. when someone posts a comment like: "anyone who doesn't agree that [insert entirely subjective statement] is just a [insert personal attack.]", then thats an open call to anyone for a flamewar.

You don't have to participate in flame wars. I ignore them, and get this...I don't even use the ignore button...I read them, and still manage to ignore them.

i guess its all about the button. if button dont get pushed mods dont have to enforce

maybe we should have pushed the button more back when the forums were seething with liberal venom foaming uncontrolably all over the place disgracing our country and our brothers at arms all the while:bigjoint:

an argument based on pure fallacious presumption, attempting to pigeon-hole and discredit your opponent. how is this meaningful to anyone?

"man up"? really?

I think hes just saying you know like people should only complain if its a real insult not just some trivial slight diss:weed:

a trivial slight diss is a present because it allows you a chance to produce a witty retort

this won always works:

"see he cant back up his agrument so he has to resort to name calling "

see and then everybody can just move on toke another bowl and try to find another interesting thread:weed:

you missed the point. your theory that 'ignore' is the solution can only be valid under the presumption that everyone will ignore the baiting. general baiting has been and always will be the bullet to the kneecap of overall rational discussion among peers on the internet.

it is the very definition of 'trolling'. drop an outrageous and demeaning, yet nonspecific comment aimed at anyone who disagrees with you, facetious or genuine, and hope for equally hostile response. just drop the net and wait for the fish...

Well, if people choose to participate in 'flame wars', than thats their choice. You can still engage in civil debate around the trolls. Thats what some people like to do apparently, why not let them have their fun. If someone becomes insulting, feel free to press the report button.

If people feel they have to respond to trolls, even if it annoys them, well then they should probably stay out of the politics section. But to get rid of the whole section because of a few neurotic people doesn't make much sense to me.
