t5 ho fixture issue.

hi there, today ive been havingssome problems with my t5. I got it from the hydrofarm catelog (the white cased one 4 foot 4 bulb). so today all 4 of the lamps are just glowing a really dark pinkish/purplish (6500k lamps). the other day I noticed one of them doing this and I turned them off and made sure the bulb was in right (wiggled it around a bit) and yurmed it back on, everything was fine. to my dismay doing this to any and all of the bulbs has not helped since this started.
if this has happened to anyone else lemme know!

Prob ballast failing. I have had to put 3 ballast in my sunblaze 4ft 4 bulb white fixture. The first went to shit after about 1.5 years

hmm are they easy to replace? have some basic fixture knowledge and have built m.h. ballast kits. I'll have to look into the ballasts.

the brand is envirogro. and after looking over the box for specifications it says on it that it has a 5 year warranty on the ballast. anyone know what company I would go to to inquire about my warranty? options would be the retail store (unlikely in my opinion), the hydrofarm company who sold it to the retail store or do I try to get a hold of this envirogro company?

ok, so the light starref working again hence the lack of continuing the thread, I have also figured out what is causing the problem (well, kinda).

so I had my oscilating fan in wirh my drying outdoor stuff. when I brought it back into veg an turned it on, half hour later my t5s were all messed up. turned the fan off and the opposite happened. so I trialed this a couple times and every time the fan being on messesnwith them.

it doesnt matter if they are plugged into the same outlet or different ones. and on top of it nothing is wrong with the fan, (just bought a box fan and set it up and it to messes with the lights, same situation). for some reason my exhaust fan doesnt mess with it (vef or flower) and I can run other lights and the t5s run fine, just can't run circulation fans.

I'm stumped. probably actually pursue rhe warranty.

electromagnetic interference in the ballast

I noticed that there are two wattages of t5's available and both look the same but one is a few more watts than the other. If the higher wattage t5's are loaded onto the lower watt t5 ballasts the ballast will fail prematurely. It is however ok, to use the lower watt t5's with the higher watt t5 ballasts. It's been a while since I've paid attention but I "think" the lower watt unit is 32 watts and the other is 35 watts...you'll have to check it yourself.

vho t5 units are pricey. the bulbs are 96w. i highly doubt he has em mixed up

Well that's a weird one. I've never had issues with any thing running in my shed with T5's going. I would still say faulty ballasts but are there not usually two, one for each set of two lights? Mine all have two ballasts.

While you're at it, double the output by adding in another ballast,

it does shorten the life of the ballast ...

and dark pink should be around 2700k-3000k

Electrical wholesaler will seek the ballast for $30 each FYI. And easy to wire in.

my bulbs are 54 watts a piece (tubes really), and are h.o not v.h.o they are also 6500k bulbs but yes vos when I have a fan running it looks more like 2700k and super dim. and hioefully I won't have to pay to replace the ballasts.

Does the fan run slower if you turn on the light? If yes u have load issues.

he said different outlets. try a different outlet on different circuit breaker. use an extension cord if you have to keep in same room. if it still does it, the fan motor is causing interference. try different fan

Receptacle is backwards. Flip the hot and neutral.

EDIT: FWIW - Black goes to the gold screw and White goes to the silver screw.

Triple check your ground also.

How many watts is/are the ballast(s) rated for. They would be thermally protected which would mean the problem has been going on for some time. Maybe...if it's a single quad ballast, the thermal breaker gave up.

Another problem with these multi-figured units is one bad tube can effect the other. You're just gonna have to give it the once over

I dont think it had to do with the receptacles being backwards because this hasnt always happened. it just was.srarting whenii startedthus thread.

I also thought my fan motor was causing it so I went out and bought a different fan, same issue.

I'll check out my grounds tomorrow morning and see if I can find anything unusual.
