I just started the beans today in 1x1 rockwool. These beans will be the mommys. Single seed centre gave me as a free bonus, Afghan Kush Special, and Afghan Kush Ryder. I think the ryder is an auto, so I might just flower her in the room but kind of out of the main grow area. This first round, I am going to experiment, next round I will do what worked best in the experiment. I will put a screen up and get a nice canopy before flowering. One plant will be in Fox Farm soil, with Organics Alive soil ammendment, the only food I will be giving is Dr. Earth Organic 5, plus a bloom last few weeks of flowering. The second third and fourth plants will be in 8x8 rockwool sitting on top of a Rockwool slab. I am going to build a makeshift tray to fit this perfectly. I am going to have a five gallon bucket with an airstone in it. I want to water these babies by hand daily. (lots of time). The last one will be a DWC bucket. I am going to veg

Room: I built my room under my garage. There wasnt even a door to this room, I just put it in last week. The spot stays cool and I think was made for what its about to do. 7x7 Drywall wood frame. 6 inch can fan, carbon filter, two inline duct fans bringing fresh air into the room. Room painted bright asss white. 2 400 watt HPS, Getting another 600 before flowering starts.one 400 is aircooled, one isnt. I added a four bulb floro on the wall for side lighting, as well as two smaller floros on the other sides also for side nugs. WOOOO HOOOO

Beans- Barneys Farm Tangerine Dream, Barneys Farm Kings Kush bonus seeds Afghan Kush special, afghan kush ryder. I am going to grow two TD, two KK, and two Afghan kush special, The ryder is an auto, i am going to just leave the auto on the side for the fun of it. The plan is to create a canopy about 3 feet high, I could pull 2 to 3 pounds off this, we are going to be doing a lot of super cropping and trellis training. I will keep one TD mom, one KK mom and one AKS mom.

I will post pics shortly, to all of you who know me and have followed my grows, this one is going to be my best. I have been teaching Hydro in Africa for the past 3 and a half years, back on the mainland though (back surgery) so why not start a new grow to not only help medicate my back, but give myself something to do when I am stuck at home for 4 months.
I will take way more pics tomorrow as I have since painted the floor white, and added a new fresh air line going to the base of where the babies will be. Checked the room tonight and its airtight, WOOO HOO I was worried since this was my first constructed room.View attachment 1376941View attachment 1376944View attachment 1376943View attachment 1376939View attachment 1376940

had a question ladies and gentleman. My buddy told me my carbon filter is done once it gets double in weight. I noticed the top of my filter has like 8 little hex screws, if I take those off I imagine the carbon is in there? Could I empty it and replace it with new carbon like from a fish store? seems like a waste to throw that away.

hey just wondering how long you veg for your specified harvest of(2-3lbs), Carbon filters made by CAN's factory are build by industrial shakers shaking the can while filling it thus allowing them to pack in 50-60lbs(smallest) or more of carbon into one filter. taking off the lid and pouring in carbon without the industrial shaker would maybe get you half of that, I think it would still work, just last much less and you have that room for flaws like shifting of the carbon forming breaks and what not compromising its effectiveness, plus carbon is a nasty nasty thing to handle much less shake and pack with all your might. I would much rather shell out the 100-200 for a solid filter and not worry for a year IMO.

Also I am curious as to how you are planing on flowering these are you constructing bubble buckets or DWC rubbermaid tubs?

thanks

As far as veg, I will veg them until they fill our the screen I am going to build. I am going to build a screen above where I put the plants down, the plants will grow up into the screen, I will weave them in the screen until it is full. THis screen will be about 3 feet off the ground. Then I will flower. It might be difficult with the different mediums, but I want to see what gives me the best smoke. I think two will be in dwc buckets, then three will be in the 8x8 rockwool, then two will be in soil. I will also throw in the afghan ryder somewhere as well as the afghan kush special since they were free. Then the second round will be dedicated to that method. Looks like I will buy a new filter when the time is right, thanks for explaining that to me. I am going to finish up a few things on the room today. When I add that other 600, I think I should get 4 pounds, its all about patience and filling out the screens. I could get 2 lbs off one 600 watter, done it many times.

I got the Afghan ryder which is my first auto strain. Do I need to put the auto stain in my veg room? I heard they need to have 18-6 their whole life?

anyone know about that auto strain question above. I also did some work in the grow room today. I moved all three side floros up which will be better with the netting I added for the first four plants. I also added the netting, its kind of a smaller mesh, but I like it because I could just snip it where need be to fit in the top colas. These four will be in Rockwool, 8x8's. The 8x8 rockwools will sit on top of a rockwool slab, this slab will sit on a 3 inch bed of hydroton inside a 5 gallon bucket. I will water these plants by hand. I will have a reservoir outside the room with a bubbler in it, feeding GH 3 part, plus Kool Bloom at flower to water these guys. Hopefully finish the other side of the room tomorrow, I have plenty of time as the beans havent even sprouted yet. Plus those are only going to be moms. I should get some clones to get a test run in before the TD and KK and AKS go in there. hmmm room is looking cool, I think those side floros are going to help. I will post pics in like half hour. Peace out,

do my auto flower girls need to be under 18-6 the whole time? Or could they 12 12 with the other girls,
First and foremost, I love the T5's as side lighting. Always wondered if side-lighting with T5's could make side buds grow as quickly as top colas.

Second. The autoflowers kind of depend on genetics. Some autoflowers seem to respond well to any light schedule, and some just don't seem to go into flowering unless thrown into 12/12.

Cool, I am not going to mess with it, I am just going to put the auto in soil and fit her in somewhere. Just to taste her. I think the t-5 and other floros couldnt hurt anything right, they don't cost much to run and I am providing a litttle more lumens. I have 800 right there, I am going to leave those two where they are and use another 600 right as you walk into the room, to light that first half of the room. Its going to get tricky because I need to get in there to water so I might have to ..... well we will see, going in there right now, posting pics later. PEACE out.

You should get the best results from giving the autoflowers 18 hours or more of light so if you have a seperate chamber for vegging put them in their while the others flower. I would personally try out 20/4 light schedule as I heard it's a great photoperiod for plants but not necessary. As for the carbon filter, I'm not exactly sure. I have read about DIY carbon filters that use the carbon from fish stores so maybe you cn refill the one you have when it's done or just build a whole new one following the guide. Do a search can't be too hard to find.
I'm growing King's Kush right now. I find it to be a slow grower and it's very short with the most robust stems I've ever seen. I only grew one seed so I can't say if they are all like this but that's how mine is and matches the GHS description pretty well. My BB is about the same size though so not too out of the ordinary I guess. She is starting to really look pretty with purple leaves and lots of trichs. Good luck.

Don't "weave" the plant into the screen. The screen is used to force the plant to grow horizontal, thereby releasing chemical auxins that force the nodes to branch out, forming additional growing tips. Every couple of days, just gently pull growth back underneath and gently encourage the tops to stretch out for the next spot in the screen.

I'm interested to see how Tangerine Dream does in a screen, as I have a 5 pack of those beans.

You can empty and refill the filter on your own, however, it will be a dirty job. I'd rather pay for another one, however, it does indeed seem like a waste to toss one.

Serapis,

Thanks so I am going to super crop as well, should I wait till the plants are as big as I want them to be, then put the screen on? then veg for another couple weeks with the screen? I want to have a full canopy in that area with the screen.
