Taste quality is well less then desired..

I recently picked a bud or two a little early from my plant, just to get an idea of what the rest of her is going to be like  and well... it tasted horrible.. It kinda burned the back of my throat and left this absence of taste lingering around in my mouth. Almost like it numbed my taste buds, and the roof of my mouth. Anyone else ever have this happen to them? They were only maybe about 4 weeks into flower also. My soil is run of the mill miracle grow (with the time release fertilizer balls). I used regular tap water left out to sit for a day or two for watering. And their was absolutely nothing else added, no nutrients, no anything. The bud was left to dry on top of a new clean Ziploc bag for about 4 days, it was smaller popcorn buds, to small to hang. Any ideas on why it left this taste guys and gals?

"with the time release fertilizer balls" Your soil had nutrients in it already. If you dont have drainage in your buckets these can build up and also go into your plant. Making it harsh to smoke, giving you that burning of the mouth feeling. You didn't flush your plants enough before you dried them. If the herb sparks or crackles, thats another sign that you didn't flush your plants enough. Can't do anything about this once you cut them down. It's just not going to be what you want your herb to be. Will still get you high just a little bit more harsh on your throat. I wouldn't use time released fertilizer soil in the first place because of this problem. You want to know what is going on with your nutrients. FOX Farm trio nutrients are recommended by me IMO. I also use Fox Farm Soil. Both not priced to badly on amazon.com Happy growing

Honestly never would have thought of that.. Kinda kicking myself in the ass now that I didn't though lol. But it is very good to know since i have about 2-3 weeks until the rest of the plant will be finished :D If I start flushing the plant regularly now do you think that their would be enough time to save the rest of the crop?

Dude 4 weeks and no flushing. That's why. Let her grow. I know it's hard but the bud you just pulled could of been a 1/4oz if left alone. If you want to taste fast dry when harvested. But dry the rest slow and cure.

I know it's hard man haha, kinda jumped the gun a little bit. I have restless hands in the grow room sometimes lol. Also, sort of off topic but when your determining how many weeks of flowering does it start at first sign of sex, or when the lights are switched over too 12/12?

I go by first week of sex. Count back 2 days and that's start of week 1. Never fails me. 8-9 weeks I'm cutting.

Yeah I probably have a ways to go. Will post some pics in a bit, maybe you can tell me how much longer you think this plant has?

It will be a major ball part figur but we will try. Do you have a scope? If not get one. 60x min but I like 60-100x IMO. There only 15 bucks and really the only way to see if plants are done.

Your ball park estimate is better then mine. I'm still really new at growing and I always want to do everything too fast with them. I know it's just a phase, and a learning experience. But painful nonetheless.. lol

Anyways the first one is my Indica, and this picture is from about a week ago before she was snipped a bit. The second one is my Sativa who I am mostly wondering about how much longer it needs. Sure it's going to be a while.

Looks week 2 on the indica so 6-7 to go. The sativa looks week 3-4 so 6-7 to go also. But in the sativa photo I see newbies starting? They can't be under 12/12. the droopy leaves say there not rooted well. We are just now starting spring so if you can't give them 18/6 light in a room put them in the window. Slow yes but better then 12/12.

Also looks like cfl lights. You need alot more. I would say get a T5 min. Cost will be about the same after you get what is needed.

Actually, anything above 20x is fine for viewing trich development. You want to get a good view of a lot of trichs in the scope, not just a few. And you are right, a scope is the only way to be 100% sure when to cut.

LOL, have you even grown with MG? It produces some of the most beautiful plants. His problem was testing bud too early, not MG....

While on the subject of MG, just make sure to add a little bit of Dolomite lime to the top of the soil and add half strength MG bloom food when she is flowering. The nutes in MG should last for a typical mj grow, but the phosphorous gets used up quickly in flowering.

you are getting punished for using mg,shoulda went organic

As does everything else in MG soil(phosphorous), I used it for over a year. For one, you actually have to learn how to use MG properly...which is pointless for new growers b/c the organic route is the cheaper and correct method. Then you have to worry about the shit overfeeding, particularly when you transplant just prior to flowering. I finally wound up diluting their soil blend before abandoning Scott's Corp altogether b/c half their bags are full of gnat larvae.

And then, if you manage to get past that you have to flush...or your bud smokes like rice krispies and tastes like peat moss. The nutes in MG do not last for a typical grow, they become imbalanced in a hurry.

Right next to all those MG bags at Home Depot are organically based soil, peat, mushroom compost, and Epsoma granule nutes. Mixing those 4 ingredients together are cheaper and more effective to produce happier healthier plants. And the added bonus is, you don't have to drown your plants in the end via unnecessary flushing.

Thats a shame.... I have absolutely no problems with it.... I use it for my herbs and my tomatoes and it feeds the entire season. As for gnat larvae, I've yet to have any gnat problems myself... the only drawback I've encountered is acidity, but that can easily be remedied with lime.

different strokes, different folks... :)
