You couldn't pay me to step into a hydro store much less buy any of the crap they sell. And......if it's "natural and organic", then it must be good. Arrrrggggggghhhhhhhh...... I'm getting so tired of reading that false, marketing hype on food labels and such! What a frickin' racket. "Natural & organic" = higher prices with no way to confirm quality. Certainly the value sucks.
lol my bf and i were just talking about this. it's a shame they're so damn marked up. and same can be said for the grocery store/produce. SO ANNOYING.

That "Super" soil, doesn't have anything in it that a good soil won't have. Maybe just in higher quantities. Some of that stuff won't even get used up completely, so that part of it is just a waste of time and money. Even if your soil is missing something, it's nothing that can't be remedied with a complete fertilizer, kelp liquid and an earthworm/compost tea feeding once in a while. At least that is my belief. Take it as you will.
yeah but idk anything about making my own soil, so it's nice to buy stuff that's pre-made, if i'm unfamiliar with the ingredients and their interactions or usefulness entirely. :) i wish i knew how to make my own soil! trying to learn atm actually.

Well it is summer time again.....when does fall start again? Man well i was out for a couple of days got some catching up to do. I have picked up a new hobby to go along with my buds. Tomorrow I begin on my quest to grow my own mushies. I have been looking into this for a while now. So I went out spent a little for a few things and I am set. When I say little, I mean little when compared to what we shell out for our buds. I have 4 diff strains in the fridge now to noc up some jars. Less than a bill and I have everythng I need including 4 different strains. My room is going to be the happy room even more now. I cant wait.
Yeah I agree on the N&A claimns drives me nuts too. As far as soil I changed over to Lady bug. Prices are good, no high dollar mark up from hydro stores, and i can get it locally. I live out in the boonies, so that is a factor. All my plants seem to like it too. I have veggies, reg house plants, even a small pecan, and my babies too. When I need it in bulk I can get that too. I have to go to them in dripping springs but atleast i know what I am getting. I try to avoid the hydro at all cost. I only go in an emergency type thing. Nothing against them personally just everything in there is way marked up and you never know who might be watching...

ummmmmmmm post a thread about growing them shrooms... i've never eaten them or anything and i want to. i saw kit at Planet K the other day... do u have to use poo to grow them... LOL

No you dont have to use poo. But if you do it grows faster. You dont need to buy a kit either. The materals is so cheap. To give you an idea. 10 bucks for a syringe. Trying buying a pack of seeds for that price. The big thing with mushies as far as i understand it is being clean and sterial. The pressure cooker is your biggest expence. Most of us already have jars and most of what is need in house. I will be posting a thread in the Hall section. I will let you know when it is up and you can follow along. This will be my first time so no promises of anything great but we will see.

hey everyone just want to ask ... how much is yalls electric bill? .. include how many lights, fans, etc please.... just curious and im sure others would like to compare....

mine:
3 br/2 bath house
3000 watts
4 inline fans
dehumidifer
window unit, soon to be mini split.
prollly another 400 watts of leds going in veg room

bill was 401.00 this month. used 3835 kwh i really watch what i leave on and turn on and really try to keep it as low as possible .

if i did math right the 3000 watts=3kwh per hr... so 12 hrs on...36kwh x 30=1080kwh..

my dads in dallas is 1400 a month and he does not have an operation lol.. a pool, guest house, big arbor , hotub, and his wastefull with power..

That's nuts! Glad I don't live in Dallas! Just pulled my bill for May 14 - June 13 and it is $133.20. That's for all an electric house, A/C on a 3,100 s.f. house, one small freezer, 3 refrigerators (one being a kegerator), range/microwave, etc., one 1 HP well pump, lights, 2 computers, home theater, etc. Have service with a co-op in central Texas. ;)

A pool and hot tub pumping systems can use a lot of power.

We used to harvest psilocybin from cow pies a few days after a rain late spring - late fall. Liked the psychedelics, hated the physical effects.

Plants need a rest. Recommend a 20/4 during veg.

Its funny people always say that. But after growing up on a working ranch (currently bout 400 head of black Angus mainly) I've never seen a single shroom. Guess I'm just not in the right area

You know I hear that a lot. I grew up working with the dirt and it just seems so easy to me; like second nature. I still can't wrap my mind around why people have such a hard time with it or are so intimidated. I guess it's like me with hydro though... I wouldn't know where to start, lol. You really don't have to "make your own" soil. You just need to amend it sometimes. I hope I don't come off as insulting because that is not my intention.

I'm glad you're trying. Trying is one of the first steps to learning. It's really quite fun and rewarding. It just feels more wholesome, getting your hands dirty.
You just gotta get a feel for it more or less. Just go easy on the blood meal if you're doing "organic". Let me know how it goes, I'm excited for you!

For mushrooms, manure is a pain... you have to sterilize it and I can't be bothered. I usually just use birdseed for mine.

Nope his strains are mostly sativa Dom and do well in the heat here
Try white magic
Thanks! I will check it out.

I remember years ago catching some kids walking around our cow field. I ran them down and asked what they were doing. They said they were just trying to walk home and took a short cut, but they had a bag full of mushrooms. I looked in the bag and told them they were dummies because they had the wrong kind of mushrooms. Just because it grows in manure doesn't mean is a cubensis, lol. I may have saved their lives that day, lol.

I had a buddy who used to use popcorn kernels for shroom.. I have no idea how to do it but Google has all the answers.. If I could get some spores I would try it just to do it.. Nothin like laughin ur ass off on some shrooms

My electric is about 200 in a 2400sf house central air hardly ever turn on house lights but a few plasmas stay on almost all the time
Only have about 250 watts veg 18/6 still not flowering anything... What gets me is an old window unit that's on 18/6
I have a newer ac but its digital and won't work with a timer
If I could grow inside I wouldn't need the ac but I have to grow in a shop outside.. Have a perfectly big laundry room but the mrs ain't havin it... This is in hill country....
Once I start to flower my bill should go way down bc ill prolly drop down to about 100 watts for veg... For clones and few mothers

Oh yeah and uncle Ben is a legend! Good to know ur a Texan. Salute

I tried super soil for one run.. Found it to be overly expensive and unnecessary my new soil mix is easy
2cf of organic compost
2cf of peat moss
2.cf bag of perlite
One bag of worm castings
Several handfuls of garden lime

I also mix in a few bags of ocean forest and or happy frog
But the mix would be fine without it.. Very cheap and makes enough to last a lifetime almost

Recycle your soil! It gets better

Funny, no scolding except for picking the wrong species lol! I can see them now, beige white stem that turned deep purple with a hint of indigo blue when crushed, thick flat cap that went from beige on the edge to burnt orange in the middle. That was in the Victoria area.

Looks good. I don't do super nothing, I mix my own. I'd buy those huge bags of vermiculite from Sutherland's, the coarse kind and add to it. Buy you some alfalfa horse cubes from a feed store, soak a little in water overnight and add the slurry to your mix for a hit of the triacontanol.

78F in the hill country right now! Fine tuned my rainwater rig before lunch with mounted pump, hoses, etc. I can now give my faves in the greenhouse mama nature's finest!

Newest toy. http://www.audiogeneral.com/Panasonic/ptae8000u_brochure.pdf This thing is unfrickin' believable and a helluva value considering the rebates, 3D glasses, extended warranty (that expired June 30). If you ever do a front projector and have some cash to burn, get this puppy. Blacks are BLACK, whites are white, colors are incredible, contrast is to die for.....

Well, I did tell them to leave. The ones they were picking didn't even look like the right ones; they were slender and solid white. PSA just because a mushroom is growing in manure doesn't make it edible. That last thing I need is to get sued because someone ate a toxic mushroom from my field, lol.

I was stupid once and ate the wrong kind of mushroom. I threw up and went to sleep for about 13 hours.... felt like hell when I woke up.

Yeah, I agree with your opinion of the super soil. I used to spend the money on FFOF and I still think it is a good "soil", but I've found Shultz to be just as good. Currently trying Vigoro. I usually add some blood meal, bone meal, castings, perlite, verm, and diatomaceous earth to the mix. But sometimes when I don't feel like dealing with it... I just add some premixed ferts like Happy frog or Vigoro. It seems that all you have to do is give it a place to grow that provides plenty of moisture and food. It will do everything else.

I've been doing some reading on triacontanol and have been wanting to add some alfalfa meal to the mix, but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if Hi-Yield sells it, it's just not at my local farm supply store.

Texas Heat! Tweaked my timers over the weekend to reduce exhaust cycles. Posted my saving on my thread but here's a re-cap... My house electric is about $150/mo and similar to UB's casa. I run the thermostat at 74 degrees.
https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/654674-im-ready-blue-og-white-12.html

So if I read that timer right, you are saving 3 hours a day of fan time? Doesn't seem like a huge impact, but like you said the 12/12 is when you may see the real benefit.
168 hours saved during veg this grow.
504 hours saved during flower.

Think about this way. Having the exhaust fan running in my setup is like leaving the front door cracked on my home. All that cool 74 degree air is being sucked outside.

672 hours, that's a savings worth my time.

During the winter, I'm thinking about routing the attic exhaust back into the house for heat (after it's been scrubbed).

See, even pot heads can grow green and save the environment!
Here are some new pics of the plants and the split ventilation timers.

Blue OG in front with the split main stems.

Nice growth on this three-branched White Lavender.

Might look a little crazy, but set up this way the room ventilation cycles on and off during lights off saving me on my A/C bill.

You see where the light ventilation and room ventilation are synced when light are on.

Hey well my bill is anywhere from 150 to 250 in the summer and a little over a hundred in the winter. I have 1 600 watt, 2 -6" fans, 1- 4" fan and some CFLs. I live in a double wide out in the hill country. I also have my ex,my mom, my 17 yr old son and 21 yr old daughter living with me. Dont get me started. Yeah for my mushies I will be doing a G2G with wild bird seed and composted cpoo. We will see how it goes. This is my first time. I just did the live culture. Now I get to wait a week or two and see if it worked.
As far as soil I use ladybug right out of the bag. PLus use their ferts too. I have had pretty good luck with it so far. All my plants seem to like it.
Uncle Ben what is the deal with triacontanol? I havent heard of this before....not like that means anything. LOL there is a lot i havent heard about.

Goodro-spores are easy and legal to buy. You are just supposed to look at the spores and not grow. Just look it up on the net. Here is one http://www.mycrotopia.com/catalog/catalog.php. They are 10 bucks a pop plus free shipping. I will be starting a thread as soon as I have something to look at. You are more than welcome to follow.

Lucky you with the co-op deal... I am in one of the few areas that has not deregulated energy in TX.
