American democracy is at a precipice, experts say. And time is ticking

Doom scrolling much?

You know the news sucks but no sense in creating more angst and anxiety over the uncontrollable..I've taken my life back a bit from news and it feels great. Still have my fingers on the pulse- I think a hurricane hit Florida.

I'm going to read a book and put together an item I ordered today; maybe slide over to Dispensary, and you?

"doom scrolling" awesome term.
The news really needs to get off this full tilt boogie of speculation and amplification of a handful of knuckleheads.

Much depends on how we deal, or don’t, with judges abusing their positions of unique power.

We might just rely on our neighbors to the north to be our backup reservoir of pluralist politics, from which we might reinoculate our damaged political ecology.
Much depends on the upcoming elections.

I don’t understand the perceived slight. There was nothing in the article that hasn’t already been noted by many members of Congress.

The first two paragraphs sum up the article- always.

Who are they polling? Polls aren't shows..since I have been here loosely over the past few weeks, it's easy to see how Media has an effect on our citizens of the world.

If you really want doom might I suggest 'The End is Nye'? Limited six part series on how the world can easily end through typical acts of God. It's on Peacock or SYFY.

Pick one.

YOU didn’t read it, either: Choker Quarrlesome, it ain’t.

I acknowledge the negative aspects of worry - in this case, the fear of doom scrolling - scattered yet hyper focused wallowing in the fear & alarm - but this article isn’t that, and doesn’t feed that. To put it another way, it’s nothing like the hair-on-fire, three-minute-rage-of-the-moment seizures that Mom & Pop Rural America has been force-fed for the last 50 years; instead, it’s a rather level-headed appraisal of NOW, intended for a thoughtful, literate audience. Not a ton of *new* news, but hardly worthless.

Thanks for posting it, CC - I’d comment more, but I’m in the middle of cleaning & reorganizing the garage, so maybe later.

Obviously you didn’t read the article.

Keep your head in the sand though, that’ll help.
It's not a matter of putting head in sand.

We are undergoing a generationally driven social shift away from the status quo of white rural power that controlled much of this nation since its inception. It's so big and moving so slow, it hardly matters to our daily lives. We are going to vote in November. It's quite likely that Democrats will lose the House. What happens next? We will see.

I’m still hoping for a surprise victory and the Democrats hold on. It can happen.

It could have happened if Biden hadn't started a proxy war with Russia driving up the price of everything and is threatening military action to another nuclear power (China over Taiwan), record inflation, market crash and housing bubble bursting in some metropolitan areas. Although not all his fault, he's gonna wear it like a cheap suit.

People have lost their TikTok attention span with Ukraine, and when they see 60 billion going to another country to play enemy for the US military industrial complex, their eyes glaze over and push the red button because the blue one depresses them.
