The French Cannoli` Hash Thread

nice pics Mo,

It seems to me that the iron press technique produced too much heat, but i might be wrong. I like cold pressing, for that i just put my powder in a baggy next to my body for a little bit just to get to my body temperature then i use a bottle full of water, no need for hot water, the trich will melt together and make a shinny looking piece.
I also like the shoes, walk with it for a couple of hours and stick it to the freezer for a little bit and unwrap it fast !

I just feel that to many terpens are lost with the water process for me to burn some more by heat pressing it, knowing that lots of them have a really low flashpoint .
It will decarboxylate inside of my joint !

here is some shark shock bubble cold pressed

The iron was a little violent heat wise Mo and it is harder to control the actual pressing because you cannot see what you are doing. Kristobal you on the other hand did not press quite enough, it is quite apparent in your two first pressed pics
Kristobal pressing with a heat source is more important than you think, you work with body heat approx.100F and shoe press is higher because of the friction. I work somewhere between 170-200. You do not only decarboxylate when pressing with heat, you are also creating a mass of resin that is more than its components. The transformation of loose resin glands into a resinous form brings out the fragrance of the flowers when breaking the membranes surrounding the resin heads and “locks” the fragrance and flavors into the Hashish, the terpenes are “bound” in the mass with the cannabinoids through the pressing process. The resinous mass is “corrosive”, meaning that it will gradually absorb the resin gland’s membranes and most microscopic vegetal matters in the first weeks of its transformation, resulting in a cleaner Hashish with a richer, more complex nose.

I think Frenchy knows his hash. Im gonna follow the pro. Mo nice try bro. taste some it could still be great. I want a smoke report please. and if you dont use heat then you have to press it with a hash press or similar inch lbs of pressure. i do like hash from a hash press. but i had some similar to frenchy's when i was in Holland back in the 80's and wow.

yowza what up with that frenchie
Yowza??? You got me here, I have no clue!
I have to mention that using an iron with good temp settings is not a bad move, you have to be careful to have enough buffer (wet paper to towel) when you work. The main problem with it is the control that you cannot have since you can see what you do. The Mulanje will still be super yummy for a fact much better than if it had been cold press. Cold press is only functional (storage, transportation, etc.) but does not create the "magic".

I did need to experiment with the temperature. The nylon setting seemed too cold so I raised it to silk and that was too hot! I went back to the nylon setting for the second press and it was perfect! I use the heel of the iron and push out from the center. I can feel the movement of the resin and I was able to make a perfect circle.

In the second press picture you can see some imperfections in the patty. Those were caused by me pulling the bag apart with warm resin. Each side of the bag pulled away some resin and then when pressed back together there were air bubbles.

Another change I made was to keep both ends of the foodsaver bag open.

Frenchy - how thin should I make the patty?

The cannoli in the jar today still smells like fresh Mulanje bud :)

Cheers,
Mo

If you can get an instant read temp gauge you aim and press and it reads the temp and set iron till it gets 190 then you would be onto something. Ill wait for a smoke report bro. If you smoke it and are super baked then i may try it and compare when i make mine. im got 5 plants in flower just for hash/oil/butter. i should have over 8 oz to use of buds and trim. i like that frenchy said it should taste really good. I will say this the stoners always come up with cool ways to do stuff.

My iron is digital so the lowest setting is Nylon and the second lowest is Silk. So using the thermometer won't help me. I can't fine tune the temp. Nylon temp works great. I just need to take my time and press a little harder.

Here is a pic from today:

Smells even better today :)

I have had quite a few years of experience with iron press, that was my tool when I started repressing hash over forty years ago. If I am over it you will be as well sooner than later. A hot bottle of water is really not cutting edge technology but so efficient.

Its supposed to get better, make a ball of it Mo if you do not plan to smoke that fast. From the color it does not look overheated at all.

Ok Frenchy i understand better why you heat press those glands together now ! I have never read nor heard that terpens are getting trap by the melting resin, quite interresting fact ! I will try your technique on the side to see the result !
