Very good film

Did you ever see/read this?

A very good adaption to film of a great book (I love Kafka)

Also, dynamic social commentary.

Read it if you haven't or watch this film.

It will twist your mind

:)
Nope never seen or read it. Looks very strange...

Solid Hydrogen Explained (Again) - Is it the Future of Energy Storage?

26,751 views Jun 26, 2022 Near the end of last year I published a video on solid hydrogen storage and it got a lot of questions, critiques, and push back from some of you. In some cases, rightfully so, and in other cases, not so much. Based on the more constructive critiques, the video focused too much on one company, Plasma Kinetics and their claims. It didn’t give enough context around metal hydrides in general. In trying to simplify a pretty complex topic, I oversimplified some things, which created problems. So is solid hydrogen storage actually a thing? Is solid hydrogen currently being used? And what about Plasma Kinetics? Let’s take another crack at solid hydrogen energy storage and try to address some of the shortcomings of my last video.

So getting over the rona, it wasn't too bad, felt (and still feels) like really bad allergies or a chest cold. Just congested and tired.

I automated my weed growing, nothing crazy, just resevoir running to drippers, works great but I kind of regret it. Messing with my plants was my hobby, there just isn't anything really needing to be done now. It's boring. Clones clipped and extra leaves removed at week 3-ish, now it's just mixing up nutes every couple of weeks.

I love this guy & his band & I can totally agree with his sentiments

I wanted to move back in 1985 & go back to Ireland, but that cunt of a wife said it was too cold for her.

So now I'm probably/will die in this home of madness & Republicans

That pisses me off.

FUCK AMERICA!!!!!!!!

Land of Freedom?

SUCK MY DICK!!!!!!!

all retorts are welcome to my opinion

Stay safe/get your booster
Peace out to everyone,

I was sitting in the bar at a club in NYC in 1981 at a table when someone bumped into my back & almost caused me to spill my drink.
I was like what the fuck & turned around to call whoever it was an asshole, but it was this guy, so all was cool.
We sat back-to-back most of that evening
Very cool :)
Actually, I bought him a beer :)

Cunt farmers… a common phrase when I was young, in NL. Refers to redneck-ish people not from a city but a small town/village. Hundreds of years ago our cities had walls and gates to protect city inhabitant, aka citizens, from these less civilized people. With cities expanding far beyond the historic walls everyone became a “citizen“ and ended up with corresponding rights and liberties. Even voting rights. The division between city folk and rural folk aka cunt farmers never quite disappeared. Cunt farmers vote religious racist conservatives into politics, city folk tend to be more higher educated, secular, more progressive and more liberal. Of course there are many exceptions, but it‘s a historical statistical fact. People in the part of NL that’s actually called Holland consider most of the rest of NL cunt farmers who speak weird dialects. Not entirely untrue.

A recent (major) poll in NL shows the BBB party, the Farmer–Citizen Movement, aka the farmer party, would become the second largest party if elections were held today. That’s 18 of 150 seats. Doesn’t sound like much perhaps but “they” currently have 1 seat, a single issue party. Historically the christian democrats was the party for farmers, but in addition to all the other misery in the world we have another increasingly pressing issue: too much nitrogen emission. Even though NL is almost one big city, 54% of it is farmland. While the gdp produced by farmers is less than 2% of total. 70% of products is for export, NL being second/third largest agricultural exporter. The EU wants NL to speed up reduction of nitrogen emission, to conserve nature, to ensure purple flowers will continue to grow in the world renown dutch hills

Several measures have been taken over the past years, some notably:
- many building projects have been stopped, new permits no longer handed out, increasing a housing shortage to close to a million (on 17mil people), in turn causing such a huge increase in house rates starters can no longer afford to buy one even with two fulltime jobs. Saving up for it is pointless because the price increase per year is larger than what regular folks could possibly save in a year. No housing for immigrants or youngsters wanting to leave their parents‘ home.
- speed limit on highways reduced from 130km/h to 100 (while it was 120 for decades) during the day.
- nitrogen emission quota for certain industries, like schiphol airport

Still not close to enough, in some areas another 70% reduction is necessary. So the next step is to buy out farmers. 1/3rd of them that is. Cattle farmers. Force them to quit if needed. We need the space for housing too. Even the christian democrats agree, basically all the not entirely wacko parties agree. Problem is, this BBB party is just another populist paid by in this case the farm and meat industry and its voters are cunt farmers who block roads, intimidate politicians at their homes and well, you all know the type. No election coming up soon but going from 1 to 18 would be insane.

This was 2019, same issue:

This week is going to be a mess again. Blockades that will cause millions in damages for those trying to pay the mortgage of their overpriced houses. Even though that results in less solidarity with farmers, there appears to be a large amount (1 out of 8 voters across the spectrum) of cunt farmers that still has this misplaced romantic idea of actual farmers putting food on our tables. 1 out of 5 millionairs in NL is a farmer. Fuckers all have an estate and are too dumb to realize it. Government wants to compensate them into retirement but they‘re like no I want to get up at 5am and farm shit. Mostly chicken, pig, cow and goat shit.

In the US there is 1.6 chicken alive per person. In NL the ratio of chicken to human is 6 to 1. Relatively we got 3x as many pigs. If you made it this far and expected more, see thread title. Or read more into it, like the possibility of a civil war, city folk vs cunt farmers. Or if you’re really high, chickens vs humans…

I figure most cars in western Europe will be EVs in a decade, reducing emissions and demand for petrol and most power generation will be by renewables with energy storage. The war in Ukraine will accelerate this process and new battery technologies are coming online that decrease charge time, increase range a lot and lower costs. Likewise Heavy trucks will be battery powered with tram line power over stretches of main highways for recharging on the move, several systems are being tested now and most trains are electric in Europe already.

There is currently a global food shortage, so the farmers should be getting high prices and paying more for fuel and fertilizer too. In the current situation, I wouldn't expect any reductions in agricultural production.

Hydrogen has been getting plenty of press in my state the last year. We have plenty of green energy (hydro) and start ups are underway to make and export hydrogen. If you remember in one of our chats we spoke of Subs and i mentioned Australia should invest in the German Hydrogen subs.
One of the downsides of hydrogen is the amount of energy required to produce it but we have plenty of energy and the export market to placers whos energy sources are not sufficient could be a huge market. Japan for eg wants to shut down all It's nuclear plants.

In NL every car sold in 2030 and later has to be an EV. In EU the target is 2035. Less than 4% of cars is an EV though, double if hybrids are included. It's likely to be delayed but it's generally good to set the bar high when catching up (the nitrogen issue is decades old). No such thing as range anxiety when the country is only 130x200miles and has a quarter of all charging stations in Europe. Germany has a very high road density so not a problem there either. It's inevitable that's for sure.

But traffic is responsible for less than 10% of nitrogen deposition in NL so it will be too little and too late by itself. We just need to get rid of a bunch of angry cunt farmers. They’re trying to block roads at the border with Germany to ”protest against the difference with measures in Germany”. This was a few days ago and will be common this summer.

In addition to uber cunt farmer of the farmer party, also present the leaders or second in command of the various far-right anti-vax, pro-black peet, nazi parties. I am a little exaggerating, only 2 of them are actual anti-semites, rest just regular racist fascist populists.

Yes that pig, who talks like a conspiracy theorist, got 12% of votes in a poll in NL “cause we need to support our farmers“, is buddying up with the splintered far-right. It’s not the first time people use these polls to cast a protest vote and I have little doubt following polls will be different but it’s going to force almost all the parties on center and left to work together. They’re basically helping the greens and animal party (which as the name implies is all about animal rights) get a spot in a future coalition. Parties that will only help the center to a majority if some of their key demands are met, which is the opposite of what cunt farmers want.

One of the more radical protesting cunt farmer groups:

I wouldn’t either, if this was simcity world. In reality however it’s a hard plan the government recently doubled down on, made clear they won’t back down this time, which is exactly why there are now so many protesting farmers. More money and global food shortage is not a factor at all in this discussion. There is already enough plant-based protein being produced globally to feed the entire world population if we wouldn’t feed half of it to animals to grow meat. Remaining a top nitrogen polluter by killing among others half a billion chicken per year, and destroying the little nature we have left in the process simply isn’t an option, morally and legally. Those cunt farmers will just have to f off to Canada or New Zealand like they used to, and already are again. Even to Germany, cause we all know imaginary borders between nations stops nitrogen. :|

Sounds like the problems of globalization and EU policy. Internally in NL with a parliamentary system, the majority wins, even if there are a hundred parties and urbanites usually outnumber the rural people in parliament. Usually organic nitrogen (Chickenshit) is used as fertilizer and is worth trucking to other places for profit and is considered better than inorganic sources by many. Making policy is like making sausage, Bismarck said, nice to eat, but messy and difficult to make.

It's the wooden shoes, the farmers are all pissed off they have to wear them to deal with the mud.

Urban vs rural is where it's at, I don't know how that divide gets bridged. Personally, I'm sort of done trying to give a shit. I grew up in a rural-ish area, it just gets more and more hostile as time passes. There were lots of stories n studies in 2016 when people were trying to figure out wtf happened. I do think rural America has/had a reason to be mad, shit sucks there and has been visibly sliding for 30 years...but man, fuck em. Their anger is misplaced and stupid. At some point you quit making excuses for shitty people behaving shittily. Doesn't matter anymore why they are having a temper tantrum.

I'm trying to picture the rural Netherlands as something other the picturesque flower and windmill scenes. I would assume their big ass pig farms are run the same as our big ass pig farms...but my mind can't wrap around it.

How far from the cities are most of them distance wise? It isnt that big of a country. I am kind of imaging the northeast US states where your never more than like 30 miles from a city. I don't get how the divide forms when you are that close. Middle America can be hundreds of miles of nothing in every direction, I can understand viewing something that far away as some sort of "other."

*you actually hit on my real view why the divide exists, some people/companies/groups have a vested interest in convincing rural folks the city dwellers are the reason things are bad, while picking their pockets.
