the slowest auto in town

Started several autos for the "FALL Autoflower PARTY CUP challenge 9-4-2020" that @HighLowGrow started on Sept 4th/2020

I had more seedlings than needed for the challenge, so I put a few in soil pots to be grown with indoor sunshine, which is quite limited in the fall/winter

IMG_1299.JPG

I only kept one in the soil pot.....the ones in the solo cups were hempy and were mostly kept under indoor lights
IMG_1349.JPG

it was progressing much slower than the hempy solo cup gals
IMG_1403.JPG

pre-flowers by November
IMG_1420.JPG

small flowers by December
IMG_1557.JPG

very limited growth in January
IMG_1706.JPG

better by February as the sunshine is picking up intensity

now at 6 months old - still a ways to go before harvesting

No way I remember her now lol She’s got a load of white hairs left! Should see a decent winter grow. Hey it’s basically free as well right :D

Can confirm, that cold ass winter will slow a plant to a crawl. This is a Forgotten Cookies(GSC x Amnesia Haze) from Mephisto that i started in November. Didn't see pistils till Valentine's week(Wednesday i believe) 3 months of veg and maybe a week or so more. My tent reads 62 ish which means the roots are less since the thermometer is by the light. She won't even need trich checking till the 1st week of April for a hopeful harvest and 7 day dry for 420. Took forever and almost cut her, but i just don't do that and let shit ride out. Same thing happened in the winter of 19' with 3 Glues. I'll add that all plants had an air line in the bottom of the pot so that probably keeps it colder than the 62 the rest of the plant is.20210305_235632.jpg

Happy plant tho!!

I think there must be a balance where u can keep it cooler to establish a bigger root system without them bolting.

Too much for me to try indoors but might try it outdoors this year

Shes ok. Did some defoliation(only the big fans at the main stem and 1st and 2nd sets in each branch) when i noticed her flower and she CLEARLY grew back plenty and besides me needing to raise the light due to the top leaves tacoing, i like her just fine. She's definitely around 2 feet and Mephisto says she averages 2 to 3 feet so that's decent. 2 to 3 oz I'm ok with. Need to ditch the air during winter to not have a 6 month plant though for future cold months.

I thought I was the only one growing in colder temps. :bigjoint:
Currently averaging between 62-68F for this grow. Auto's all vegged 7-8 weeks. Flowering doesn't seem to be going as slow though. I also have added air to 2 coco hempys which grew slower than the rest, also assuming due to colder rootzone.
Other than a longer veg time, I haven't had issues with the colder temps.

I wonder what else effects slow growth? NOT stunting as my plant and yours and ISK(very sure I've asked 2x before and he's in Canada) is even big for a solo all are good size. Clearly poor transplant, too much/little nutes, bugs, too lottle light can all stunt and grow a small assed plant, but is there anything other than cold root temp that might just slow the shit out of a otherwise normal plant?

Probably stating the obvious, but I can tell you from my outdoor auto grows that were impacted by unexpectedly long cold springs, that different strains react differently. Some bounced right back when things warmed up and they took off, others seemed to be stunted and never fully recovered. Sustained cold throughout the grow will probably have similar variation.

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around temps (amongst other things) with indoor autos. I've been told that 80-82º is optimal with LED lighting, but I'm finding that's a bit warm for soil grows, and maybe a better light/heat balance for hydro or coco? The ones I've grown without a tent just out on a table with 66º lights off and 74º during 13 hours of lights on, were healthier than some of the ones I'm doing with more heat and 19 hours of light. They were smaller, no doubt, but seemed 'happy'.

I haven't found the sweet spot yet with autos and my soil and temps and light intensity. Basic stuff, I know, but I've been surprised at just how different autos are than photos in finding this balance. That said, I couldn't just grow a photo out on a table, and as silly as it is, I really like that I can do that with autos.

Here's a 7 week old Colorado Cookies that I pulled from the grow space because it was weak, and it's been under 100w/13hrs/day, temps 66º-68º. Nothing particularly healthy about this one, just couldn't bring myself to throw her out. She'll take as long as she needs.

I agree with your mentioned factors that can/will slow down the growth rate, but I also think the method of growing...example, soil vs hydro

The vast majority of my grows are hempy which I believe results in faster grows than soil, but I'm sure not all would agree.

My winter sunshine gal looks to be getting close after 7 months of minimal sunshine.....thinking the damn thing must be close, but waited this long so no need to rush her.

She stinks like crazy when the sunshine hits her, so it must be still progressing....... I think.

When light hits the trichomes the terpenes evaporate and cause the smell.

all good things must come to an end, as such the 32 week old sunshine gal has been chopped along with my other 3 plants

she was getting so top heavy that I had to add a support pole

chop day

about 5 minutes latter....very quick & easy trim job
she is smelling quite dank....I can't wait to smoke this gal
