It's going to be another great year in the garden!
I've got a lot of quality seeds I'm looking forward to running, it's always better when I've got enthusiasm about the grow, re running stuff isn't the same excitement.

The plants I'm growing atm have all been grown before I'm only hoping for a better version, or in the case of Swiss skunk just a version would be nice lol.
The last 2 weren't great tbh but ah well the light is on anyway :weed:

@conor c thanks again mate i ordered the skunk special from dsc + a bubba,s gift thrown in.

Merry Chrimbo all!

I was wondering if i could try and get some advice.
I'm on the verge of getting a grow set up once and for all, but i'm struggling to decide on a light while there's still a sale on Migro Aray 4X4 LED Grow Light 500w – ledgrowstore.co.uk . I've decided to invest in a migro aray but on 1st Jan' the leccy goes up 5% and i want to make the right decision. I've been looking at a migro 4 500w but it's quite dear to run
The cost to run the Migro Aray 4x4 for 1 hour, rounded off to the nearest penny
In 2023: 13.5p
In 2024: 14.5p
18hrs a day = 14.5 x 18 = £2.61 is £18.27 a week, which is far too steep for me. If using a 4x4 tent, how much would my plants suffer if i ran it dimmed to 250watts? Would the entire endeavour be pointless?

Thanks massively for any advice forthcoming!

You do not need to veg at 500w with an LED like that.

I generally use mh in my veg tent.
My 4x8 flower tent is currently two 600w LED bar lights.
I don't normally veg in it because it's usually perpetual, but this round I finished it all off to clean it out and fill it and I've been vegging on 25% both sides and because my environment has been on point they've grown better and with tighter internodes than my usual MH veg tent.

So no, you won't have any problem vegging at 250w or even 150w.. as long as you bang it to max when you flip to 12/12

Will my plants flower properly dimmed to 250w? I certainly hope so, as running at 500w it'll cost £127.89 a week, which is undoable, they'll end up coming round with a locksmith to change the meter to a prepayment one resulting in the leccy costing even more, so i'm trying to avoid rocking the boat on that front.

I'll be getting a MH 4X4 tent if that makes any difference.

Thanks again.

My 400w mh is far more expensive than 250w led..

No, in flower you want 500w,

But you'll be running 12/12.

Your math is way off.

12 x 14.5p is £1.74

X 7
Is £12.80 a week.

Itl cost you to flower on a 10 week strain £128
Less than the value of one ounce.

In veg you could run it at 125w and itl cost you 3.6p an hour.

I veg with 96w, the wattage is suitable for the plant and area size.
When I put them to flower I don't use much more than 300w for the 1st month as they're
still vegging/pre flower then i raise it to 600/650w graduallym

Sorry, i meant £127 a month running at 18 hours a day as they'll be auto's.

What do you think will happen if i try flowering at 250watts, will it not be enough for good quality smoke?

Thanks.

For the uk members i have 2x mejui boards Samsung lm301s + ir + uv 3.5k and meanwell drivers?
They've had about 1mth use.

I've also kx250 it's been plugged in for a look nothing more. (Boxed)
Also 2x2 tent it's hardly had any use.

Hid 2x 400/1000w dimmable (1x de unused) 2x parabolic shades (1x de "needs wiring but it's there) a selection of bulbs to suit the various wattages.

If it's any use to anyone give me a shout.

I think i should've mentioned i'll be growing auto's, probably at 18 hours a day.

At 100 watts it would cost £8.60 a day.

Will it be a waste of time trying to flower them at 250 watts, i think they will still grow, but will they just be grossly low quality medicine?

Thanks again.

It's considerably less than that to run 100w
24 hrs x 100w = 2.4 kwh so 2.4 x 0.36p = 86.4p a day £6 a week.

250w will yeild some good bud it's relevant to the space.
It's no use try to flower a 4x4 with it that'll be a waste of money, 250w in a 2x2 will grow quality bud just a smaller area.

250w isn't going to be enough.
But being they are autos you may be able to run less than full.

You would have to check your DLI, because that's what's going to count.

You are giving them an extra 6 hours than I would so your DLI would be the same but at less power with more hours.

But I dont grow autos so please research required DLI to find the sweet spot for your space with your hours of light

Recently I tried using 13/11hrs for the 1st 2 weeks then reduced it 15mins a week to 12-12.
My thinking is more light is better, I'd like to have left it at 13/11 but it's unfamiliar territory and too far gone to ruin it.

I expect it would be ok, anyone think different, any opinions on 13hrs light 11hrs dark?

There was some good research posted somewhere on here recently regarding that with side by sides to show increased yield..

But other than it being 4 week of one then 4 week of another schedule I can't remember the details or who posted it.

But if I find it I'll post it on here.
Would like to test it out myself.

Oh right, cheers mate. I think i'm off to run at 100w for veg, then crank it to 500 for the flowering (that bit'll cost plenty depending on the trichomes' maturity time). But that's dependant on the strain, i've got 5 auto' seeds of gorilla glue (by autoseeds dot com via discreet seeds) but i'm not certain on the life cycle of these, 10wk rather that 8 adds even more expense leccy wise.
Believe it or not it's taken me a few years to save for this (all the while paying top whack for medicine) so for me it's an investment for the years to come as i won't have money for more quality gear for a few years again, so obviously i want to get the right stuff while sales are on or it's back to saving again = square one. This is why i've had my eye on the MH4X4 tent, as i read about leccy prices forecasted to fall in April and then again later in 2024 so it would be ideal to get the best yield i can manage and the light i'm getting (migro 4 500w) can handle 4x4 very well reportedly. I also think it'll probably fit in a 2x2 as you suggested, and i'd go with that because as you know leccy costs are a concern for me, but i don't think i'll have enough left over after the 4x4light and 4x4tent for another 2x2 tent as decent ones aren't cheap unfortunately because if they were, i'd just do it that way and hopefully duck the worst of the price hike.

I'm planning on growing auto's for quicker results, but if the leccy prices drop in April i'll be going for photo for a proper yield, then i'll be able to lay off the leccy consumption for quite some time.

Thanks again.
