As I have to buy at least 3 new bulbs again I'm looking at this thread. I've seen it with my own eyes too. A bulb has been burnt out since a grow ago, and the plants under the shitty bulb are weak looking.

This is a dumb f-ing thread. Yes Eye's are good but they are not the best and they are over-priced.

Please quit bringing dead threads back to life. I know I just did but you get my point, the OP posted this 2 1/2 years ago. Come on people.
Oh no the internet police. STFU. If someone found a thread that is still relevant today there is no issue that the thread was started 2 years ago. It still stands true today. Next you'll be on people for not searching for threads that were already started to post in. STFU. Get a life. I wish we could still neg rep people here.

Well I didnt used to think bulb brand mattered .....untill now ! I have used lots of brands over quite a few years thinking a bulb was a bulb, as many of you most likely do. Well I was dead wrong. I am quite sure that some brands might be just as good but honestly I am done trying to save a buck and just going with Hortilux from now on. I will let the pictures do the talking.

First we have Ice comparison at almost 6 weeks
:o

Ice again, take a guess which two were under the Ultrasun..

Finally we have Agent Orange that has finished at 8 1/2 weeks.

And in case you have any doubts about the setup, all these plants are on the same 4X8 tray. Taken from comarable places on tray as well. They are3 in SOG @ 4 per SQ foot. Plants are switched SMALL at around 7-8 inches. If I didnt know better and have the comparison I would have thought the small ones were just fine considering the size they are switched at. . One side has a brand new Ultra Sun the other an 2 year old Hortilux . Yes Two years old....All comparisons are the same strain from the same mom switched at the same size. Same results on other trays as well. Some strains it is more pronounced then others. I bought several brand new Ultra suns to replace my older Hortiluxes since I read so much about how the bulbs performance dimishes over time.... Think I got these for around $40 each online. I found a 6 pack of 1000 K Hortilux for $400 shipped so only around $66 shipped each. Needless to say I bought all new Hortilux after I saw this with my own eyes. Judge for yourself.

Peace
That's the problem... One of them is brand spanking new, the other is as old as the pyramids. It's like comparing a 1987 BMW M3 with a 2012 BMW M3. Naturally, the new one is going to be higher quality and perform better as it's "fresh out the box".

I'm not doubting that one is better than the other, but you need to do it with two brand new bulbs. Otherwise the fairness of the test is irrelevant.

Unless I'm too baked and reading it wrong. I'm assuming the new bulb did better, right? Or was it the two year old Hortilux that out performed the Ultrasun?

I agree 100% with your results. I only read the first page but I've done the same test with the same brands. New hortilux bulbs and 2 month old ultra suns. Better results by far on my hortilux. We're talking a difference of a 4 oz plant an an 8 oz plant guys. Just my experience tho.... I know what I need to do to get results I like :) your mileage may very.....

I joined this site to simply BUMP this thread. Currently using Ultra Suns and will most def be going back to using Hortis again. I will repost again with my own results. Thanks for the info/photos.

Very helpful.i was on the fence about using hortilux or lumatek brands. My ideal situation was to use a air cooled hood with Hortilux bulbs and lumatek ballasts. Thanks. Now 1 of the 2 isn't a question to me anymore. Do you have an opinion about the hortilux ballasts either the gold or platinum? Would you also have an opinion on lumatek ballasts?

i love my eye hortilux super hps on my lumatek 600 ballast. the lumatek bulb was cheaper in all the shops around me that carry both too. not sure why.

i got a great deal on an eye hortilux because the guy on the phone accidentally quoted me the wrong price, it was for the 400. so when i got there he told me his mistake but that he would still hold up the offer and not screw me over like that. which was cool since there are a ton of shop near me and this one was like a 20-25 minute drive.

ive put the bulb thru HELL. bad electricity... bumping my damned noggin into the hood and jarring the bulb(which ive blown a bulb doing before) and its still kicking butt over a year into use off and on. i can tell i could use a new one but it didnt fade quickly or anything... nice bulb all around for me.

Thanks for the advice. What kinda harvest you pulling with that thing ?and what is the ideal number of plants to put under it for flowering? because I'm going to have two of them staggered facing each other to cover one area .what would be a reasonable expectation out of that?
