I was looking at hard at Timber for my first light as they're somewhat local, but the disappearing act on their site and then only retailing through one vendor (one that - to my knowledge - isn't known for lights) has me looking elsewhere.
They started selling through build a soil because build a soil started using their lights quite awhile back and I’m using them on his YouTube lots of people hit up his store asking for those lights, so they started stocking them. That being said, I would wait until they have their own retail, just because the markup on the old magnolias and cypress lights was a bit steep. You could get the same light from Timber direct for around $200 less! That’s nothing against buildasoil, I’m always on there lol, but theirs no need to pay stupid tax.

I don’t think Jeremy from build a soil specializes in most of the stuff on his site, I think he is just a great curator of all things related to organic growing.

I wouldn't give up on them yet. I own four of their lights and they're all quality. I think since COVID, it's been a challenging time for Timber. Dan is a solid guy. I'm hoping that they emerge from their reorganization stronger than ever. They really are committed to making excellent products. I'm going to give them some time to get things back to normal.
I do agree with you about the disappearing from the internet. An explanation from them prior to doing that would have probably generated continued goodwill and PR.

Agreed. www.timbergrowlights.com is here one day then gone the next - and we get a little blurb simply stating that they are "Down For Maintenance"? That's not a sufficient explanation - in anybody's books.

I love my VL's ... but what hit me right out of the gate when I saw the site was not available - with all the older Timber rigs still out there, what do we do if we need service? Where do we go? Who do we contact?

A little more detail on how current Timber Owners can get repairs on their existing models would have helped.

My big issue was I messaged Timber, because they still had the option to send a customer service inquiry…no response. I messaged Dan on here and via email personally…no response. I messaged buildasoil on IG…and they respond and give me the rebranding info. It wasn’t until the day before the buildasoil marketing email came that Dan himself finally responded to tell me basically the same thing. I agree, some more transparency would have went a long way. Either way I’m excited to see how the new array performs…Who’s gonna be the first to get the mag 6? I wanna see some flowers! Lol

has anyone replaced a cob fixture with new cobs over time? or did you replace your whole fixture and go for board type/bars? do you think they will rise or lower in price ? and is it worth it in your opinion to have some stored for backup. hope you all have a good day.

Well shit..I had no idea. I'd given Dan so many praises because he was so helpful in choosing my fixtures. 3000k timber cobs at 185w. They still rock after years and grow magnificent bud. I guess after all it is just a neanwell driver some pin coolers and cree cob. Probably not too hard to fix. I built my own simple frame out of angle stock. It does suck they just disappeared. I was rather proud to have timber but now oh well. This whole industry has changed since 2015..

I still love my cypress fixtures, and I still think Dan is the man. He was having supply chain issues with the cypress components and gave me a free fixture along with the one I ordered because it took 4-5 months. Like I said above too, he wouldn’t have put out something that didn’t hit the footprint correctly, but they lost a bit of a sense of stability or security, to me at least with the store/communication shut down. I’m sure others feel similarly, it would be nice to see this way different looking magnolia perform…if anyone is on YouTube go over to that MIGRO channel where he tests the lights rigorously, and request high grove lightings magnolia line. He reviews what is most requested and Timber never got on. The fact that Horticultural Lighting Group follows Timber grow lights on IG speaks volumes for the level of skill Dan has.

This guy can probably offer some thoughts. (CobKits)

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'm glad Dan/Timber have found a new business model. Partnering with build a soil should elevate the lights profile.
That being said, I'm feeling like a guinea pig in regard to the 1st generation Magnolia. That light had some short comings that have been addressed in the new Magnolias. Early this year Timber built 50 of the the first generation Magnolias. Many of us bought that light based on Timbers reputation. I feel like that light was an experiment. Some things worked well others, not so much. That light runs hot, does not have waterproofing and the boards are different. More powerful and increased spectrum bandwidth.
I'm feeling a bit duped and I'm hoping Timber steps up and makes things right for the people that invested in what should have been a fully vetted light before releasing it on a wide scale. Feels like I bought an inferior product compared to the new one.
There was a time not that long ago that "RainDan" regularly monitored RUI and answered questions. He seems to have fallen off the map or just wants to move on from Timber and be known as HIGHGROVE. Personally, I find it a bit disappointing that he hasn't surfaced and provided some insight to what is going on with the company. I certainly recognize that he's not obligated to do so and he may be up to his neck with a bunch of other crap and has no time to respond. Many of us on this thread have been quite supportive of Timber products. I'd hope that would count for something and Timber will do the right thing.

Hello Timber Owner Group,

During the past few months there have been several personal matters in conjunction with failing supply chains that led to the ceasing of operations at Timber. We are still of course remaining committed to serving our warranty obligations. The sales@timbergrowlights email has been and continues to remain available for any warranty related issues.

While I and the rest of the company certainly appreciate your support I would like to ask for your respect and request you not air personal grievances with myself and our products, nor create false narratives and slanderous statements about the former company. I stand by our products and their design as well as our continuing customer service.

This is the only public statement I will be making in response and ask again for your respect during this period.

Take care and best wishes
Dan

Good to see you are still about.
Major manufacturers are having a tough time with the supply chain, so it is no surprise you are having yours. Hopefully you guys get back on track once this all settles down.
Your responsiveness, and interaction is what sold your lights.. The test runs here proved them. Keep on with what you were doing.
Ghosting is so common in this business, its no surprise folks jump to conclusions.
