Time to flush - or a little too early? I feel stupid.

nice work tomuch, plants look good. Id give em another week then post some pics. To flush or not to flush?? I don't, never have. I don't know how anyone could say if you don't flush your gonna taste chemicals when your grow method wasn't stated, could be all organic. I think people who need to flush are probably the people who spend hundreds of dollars for 17 bottles of additives, a bag of sasquatch dung, and whale semen just to flush it down the drain anyway, but to each their own.

Hi guys,

It having been ages, years, since my last grow, and this being a mystery seed, I'm feeling so so stupid. I can't judge my plants "well enough" at this point (Day 58 ), beginning of week 9. So I thought, what do you guys think? It is said that flushing for 14 days should not be started before the plant already could be harvested immediately otherwise. Well, all help, even guesses are welcome. BTW, if my eyes serve me properly, I think the trichs are becoming a little cloudy but I don't have a proper way of seeing them. Here are some pics, bad camera through cheap glasses lol.

Yours, Tomas

my bud look about the same 8 weeks 3 days thinking 10 days to go...

No, dude, flushing just refers to cutting out your nutrients a week or so before you harvest, running on just water, in order to 'use up' all the stored nutrients and remove the 'chemical taste.'

There are two schools of thought here, one says it's a must, the other says it's stupid to cut out nutrients at the most vital time in your flowers life, and, if your weed tastes funky it's because you didn't dry and cure it well.
I would call what you do, leaching. To me, flushing refers to putting about 3x pot volume of water through the pot. When people talk about flushing being stressful, this is what they are referring to. Leaching isn't stressful, it just may not be optimal for nutrients.

Btw, It is an RIU requirement that every flushing thread have a 30 page detour because everyone is defining flushing differently!

I suppose that depends on it being hydro or soil, too, for that matter. I didn't really think of that when answering. I'm talking about hydro. Flushing in a hydro is simply swapping to clean water.

'Flushing' in this respect is referring to flushing the stored nutrients out of the plant itself, for it to use them up. Soil growers maybe take the word 'flushing' to mean the cleansing of the exterior of the root system and medium as the main goal... To achieve the same thing. So maybe soil and hydro growers are always going to have a different perspective... That being the case defining what 'flushing' means and who is asking will change the answer to the question, so yeah, i suppose it will :)

It's really simple. If you see nute toxicity add more water and dilute the nutes. If you see nute deficiency's add more nutes. And if you want to get technical and approach this the write way. Get a ppm meter and measure your ppms and ph and your plant will tell you if your feeding it to much or not enough. Now of course the people who say they didn't flush and they got that black ash was because they used to many nutes so of course your going to have nutes in your bud if you harvest your plants with an over dose of nutes!

Ahaha.. Okay. They don't.

Thank you all - harvest done. And btw, yeah, I found the right way to end that plants life. Looking quite good actually :)
I run the same mix right to the end, then the plants get chopped down amd most all fan leaves removed. Then for the last 24 hours of their lives they are vased with RO water. I find the average budder will suck up about .5 litres of RO water during this final flush(without the roots).

I feel much better with the buds drying with purified water in them over res water.

I find it best to elevate the butts of the stalks slightly from the bottom of the container holding the RO water because it seems that plant waste is heavier than water and sinks to the bottom.

Sounds like water-curing. Does this have anything to do with that? :) I could of course search and find out - but well, yeah.. :)

I just stick the butts of the stalk in the RO water and the plants suck up the RO water through their stems like any other plant vased like that does. The foilage does not go in the RO water. Just treat them like fresh cut flowers...which they are.

I've seen them stick the whole plant in the water but I don't see any reason to do that.

If you're worried about clean, spray them with purified water just before the chop.

I know that there are people on RIU that believe the plant is dead the second it's chopped but that isn't true. If this belief were true cloning would be impossible.

It also doesn't solve anything by prolonging this RO water thing for more than 24 hours. You simply won't find this on google.

The only place you're gonna find this on google is in this thread and other RIU final flush threads for harvesting.
The final flush is making the plant use up all its stored nutrients it's stored throughout the grow.10 days R.O. Water & Flawless Finish & Boom.Terpene levels get boosted, flavor.

Looks good, another 2 weeks maybe till chop?

I never flush or leech, I feed up till the end. Your cure determines the taste at that point. There might be an argument that more stress releases more terps but for me I keep them green and healthy until chop day.

I run hydro in coco, and have done a side by side on plants leeched for 2 weeks and ones not...honestly there was no difference, not in weight, smoke or high. The only difference was one was wilted and more of a pain to trim and the other was supple and easy.

I just like keeping things green and easy trimming so I keep them green. I think the people that flush got the idea from people wanting to save $$ on the last few weeks.

10-4 I have been told to use the Flawless Finish the last 10 days to boost the terpene levels & to give it a better all round appearance.

Flushing is for lockouts. Here's the deal, it tricks everyone because the weed dries & cures faster but size and potency changes for the worse imo. Most people know by now, the longer the dry & cure, the better the taste & high. Dont flush just taper down your feedings during the ripening stage and since the plant isnt starved and slow moving she will continue to pack on weight
