To flush or not to flush this is the question ?

I had a deep discussion with a friend and fellow grower last night and i was wondering if you guy's and girl's can help me out ? this is my first year growing so i am new to a lot of things. My friend said he feeds his plants only a molasses and water mixture so he never flushes his plants and i said from everything i have read regardless of what you use most people still flush there plants before harvesting. am i wrong ?

I think its preference. I was told to flush when i started so thats what i do. You might want to flush a plant and let one be and judge for yourself.

a lot of your answer is predicated on your definition of "flush", to some flushing is simply them stop feeding them hydroponically, to others it's adding a chemical that is supposedly to help the plant develop a better taste (bs).
The concept of flushing is a flawed one.
And your friend using just molasses and water? Well... i'd have questions for him as well.
Have you smoked your friends herb?
Build an organic, meal-based soil mix, and water only from beginning to finish, no ppms, no ph testing, no BS.
 
I used to flush then one crop I ran out of time because they ended up being ready sooner than usual so I didn't have a chance. There was no perceptible difference in taste, quality, smell, ash or yield. Since then I've not bothered.

IMO, drying and curing properly is what makes your buds great.... not flushing.

I grow in dirt.

Most of us on RIU actually dont flush before harvest i believe. The only time a flush is needed is when you get nute lock-up from excessive feedings/low run-off ect.
If the plant is perfectly healthy, it does not need a flush.

Also, im not sure how your friend feeds molasses and water only? If this is true, i can guarantee a flush for him will royally fuck his shit up BAD! Especially if he's using a big pot.
 
I always thought flushing meant putting your plant upside down in the toilet and actually flushing.
Guess I've been doing it wrong, my bad
 
A debated subject, but from all I've read, one concept sticks in my head..

Why promote deficiencies at perhaps the most critical point in the plant's life?

It makes no sense. Lighten up feeding if anything.
