Could use some help topping, first time doing so. I’ve done my reading but need a little more advice. I’m thinking I need to wait for 1-2 more nodes?
Strain- Sour Diesel
Indoor grow- 3x4x6 tent
Medium-happy frog by fox farm (mixed with perlite/organic) 70/30
Lighting- 2 vipars 300v led .135+\- (I know)
- 4 led 75 w (30w) pull.
Nutrients- none yet. Next water 8/14 adding 1/4 strength golden tree
Using Tap ph’d to 6.3-6.5

IMO it all depends on your type of grow you're doing, ie SOG, SCROG,etc. I do alot of outside grow and generally cut when she is about 4 or 5 nodes in. I also FIM instead of TOPPING , gives me 4 colas on top and has a faster recovery time...just my 2 cents .

I topped late maybe 8 nodes up. I bent her over and when the side branches caught up I topped them too. This is what she looks like now in 3rd week of flower in a 2x4x6.5 / 2x Philzon 600's 16 inches from the canopy / co2 bucket hanging / 2x 6" fans & 28 inch tower fan oscillating on the lowest setting. Coco Loco soil (No added perlite) Been using fox farm line in veg and switched to using advanced nutrients in flower. She's pushing thru the transition in nutes pretty well.

I would pinch off the top 50% of the new vertical growth (leaves) with your nails, it will slow the top growth for a week and the bottom 4 nodes will grow and you will have 6 even tops in about 2-3 weeks

forgot to mention ventilation ... 6 inch exhaust pushing thru a carbon filer outside the tent. Passive intake. Tent is in an AC cooled room to help regulate heat when lights are on.

Topping her there and bending those top 2 branches outward will give you a nice uniformed canopy with 4 main tops.

I wait till its around 5 or 6 nodes, then top at the third. If you wait till the plant gets bigger like that, you have more plant left to support faster growth
That’s what I’m leaning towards, if I cut at 2 (pic) it would only leave me 2 nodes.

Since you're scrogging , I would FIM.....get more bang for your buck. However , if you're unsure just TOP 2 and FIM 2, label which is which and see what you like best . I just wouldn't cut earlier than 4 nodes of true growth .

You gotta point it will stunt growth, but on top... when u bend back the top remaining node the node right under will grow up with new tops for colas while the plant itself remains short. that helps if you have limited space for a tall strain.

If your truly scrogging with a rigid screen, and not just a rope trellis you are wasting your time with the topping. Once you bend it over and start spreading it out it will have new tops everywhere

All comments are correct , every variation will give different results . Just go for it and above all.....RECORD RECORD RECORD every step along the way no matter how small . Experience is the best teacher and you will definitely improve with every grow . Best of luck.

my scrog is a shitty trellis net, but if it’s tight enough it should work as well as chicken wire right? And thanks to all of you who have helped!
