TOPPING AUTOS

Is it okay or even a good idea to top an autoflowering plant to increase yield and keep the height down? If so whats the best and safest method to do so? I wouldnt bother but im worried because I only have one LED 1000 watt, So im only really good for like 3x3x4 space or so, give or take. Want to keep it within that range as much as possible. If it helps i'm waiting on some Auto Mazar. This is my first indoor grow, Only experienced with outdoor. Should I just leave it be? It's listed to grow to around 90cm (about 3 ft) BUT could possibly get as big as 140cm(About 5 feet) which I dont want. My other thoughtis to install a screen at like 3 foot! Probably chicken wire. So maybe just do that? I'm not sure. Let me know what yall think, Thanks in advance!!

I wouldn't top it. Train it if you are running out of vertical space. LST, etc...

But why are you growing auto's indoors? Photo's are better and many finish just as fast or faster than auto's and you have better genetics.

I have to grow indoors, No other option. This came highly reccomended by a friend for an indoor op.

Auto's have their place. I just don't think it's for an indoor grow under lights you can put a timer on and grow photo's. But if you're going to grow auto's the Mazar is likely a good one. Is it Dutch Passion? They have some good stuff.

No its a smaller independent genetics company that appears to have gotten mazar and crossed it with ruderalis themselves? hard to say but they come highly reccomended as I said., Also I got them on sale for $22.50 shipping included for 3 so

Well photo's will still give you better genetics. Ruderalis isn't known for high THC levels but it does have higher CBD levels than some other plants. It's used in breeding because of it's autoflowering nature which is good for outdoor grows in areas with short growing seasons. For some reason people have started growing them in doors. You would probably be much happier with the end product of a photoperiod Mazar. It would produce a better product.

If you want to grow auto's that's your choice. I just don't see any reason to do so when growing indoors under lights that can be set on a timer. Veg a month and then flip to 12/12.

Anyway, I hope your grow goes well. Good luck. :blsmoke:

If you're area is 2.5x2.5x4 and you're running 3 plants that get 3 feet high at least... That gives you just enough room to give each plant 2sq ft and 12" of head room before your light... Which means only your centers are going to get light.

Oh there inlies the confusion i think, I'm only doing one at a time. And its actually 6 ft tall space, I just factored in room for the light, Ideally I stay at 3ft tall. Sorry I should have been clearer

I agree with @3rd Monkey, 4' height is limiting. Maybe find some shallow pots and tie them down with LST. Consider T5's and/or CFLs and you can keep them real close.

That helps lol. What are you going to do with the other 2 then?

Anyway, if you have 5 or 6 feet, you can screen it or just keep pulling it down. I just started my first auto run, but I plan on topping as long as they push in veg, so I can't speak on that.

Ive decided to throw in a screen to make sure height stays down

You should come to the auto section for auto friends rather than general to filter oit all the negative theorys on autos leftover from like 10 years ago. Autos are in a really great place with some specific breeders actually developing f4 and further on strains and not jist a fs/1 pollon chuck for our monies. Mephisto, Dinafem, Dutch Passion, Sweet Seeds and Fast Buds are my recommendations to research and have seen a few more in the auto section by very knowledgeable growers. Also topping works wonderful with healthy plants at the right time. 21 days and green with 5 nodes? Top away is how i decide. Hope to see you in the auto section.

I remember growing an outdoor auto and some animal bird or grasshopper topped my plant perfectly too nothing else was eaten and it just grew about 2 smaller buds as colas instead of a bigger 1 main cola for the stress it would cause and the time it would take to recover I wouldn’t do it

Try lst to keep it low u could even use the chicken wire as a scrog screen the top of the plant would be bendable just don’t break it so I’d probably do this instead of topping
