I hear you.

But what is better, a beggar or a thief? there are two sides to the coin, there's the side where you choose whether you would prefer to beg or steal, then there's the side where you choose whether you'd prefer to be begged or stolen from.

I would pick a thieff anyday, firstof all I can relate, there are no saints here, second of all if he can get away with stealing from me , he pretty much earned it, I dont get pissed off when someone steals from me or manages to rob me , after all they give me valueble lessons on how to protect my self and my property, what the fuck can a beggar offer me?

Yeah maybe some vietnam vet or mayebe a genuine person who is honestly down on his/her luck, I have no problem with that, but not theese 20 something hippies who choose not to work but beg instead, that was my original point.

I've never met anyone like that in my country, and I have been homeless. At least in the sense of not having my own place and moving round from hostel to hostel.

I've never met a single person that would choose to be in that situation. Maybe, things are different in the US, but I doubt it.

trust is a child's default position. like love.

grown-ups know: trust must be earned.

and yet, having said that...i still pondered over which of the poll choices fit me best. i guess i am still an optimist at heart.

Be wary of those that seek to earn your trust.

Trust is something you must first know, then test out. Openness is the key.

well o.k., but at least they're putting forth an effort. and i won't trust without that person earning it.

Why would they want to try to earn it? This implies they have their own agendas.

I'd much rather trust somebody that doesn't seek trust from me.

There are, of course, different ways of earning trust. My argument here is that the ones that seek to earn it are untrustworthy. They're the ones that'll wait till the right moment to fuck you over.

You can also earn it without even trying. You don't need to try because you are naturally trustworthy.
