Very anecdotal :) Those lights are jammin' - You have got some super super tight node spacing. We grow SLH and Hawaiin Snow from Greenhouse and stretching is always something that must be attacked early on. Looks like you cut them free at just the right time :) I've got some Mako Haze that just got cut loose of her bondage for the beginning-of-flower-stretch as well. Shit is gonna blow up! Subb'd

Sweet grow man. I have a few glh spectra's myself ( 290 and 180w models).

Anyhow, im growing in a 6x3x8ft closet. And wen I turn on one 290w and one 180w, my closet gets up to 97f.
And I don't have any air circulation system set up at the moment.

Could you explain your exhaust set up, possibly with some pics ?

It would be much appreciated. Thanks and good luck with the grow!

Awesome journal man, I like your writings :)

Keep up the great work!
Thanks brother! I will keep up the fight for "The Medicine"!

Yeah, if you don't control the SLH in veg, I don't think she yields like she can otherwise. I am hoping they continue their normal growth patterns or better. :joint:

Thanks for the great vibes! I will have to go check out your journal.

I have about the same space as you have, I just haven't taken out the shelf yet.. so I have less height.

I draw air from a few feet above the lights using a hand me down slowed down 6" vortex type fan (Was 220V, is running on 110V). The lights blow heat out in every direction, so you are gonna have to tackle the closet as a whole.. I leave more gaps in my curtains (I use dark blackout style curtains with a white lining that are slightly breathable but don't let light in) around the bottom and have a small circulating fan I blow slightly upward and aimed at the corner generate upward flowing air to help draw cooler air into my cabinet (the fan is close to where the biggest gap I leave is) and help break the temperature inversion. The lights create that inversion because they blow air outward around themselves trapping hot air below the hot air adding heat to heat.

The lights themselves will last longer if the cooling is improved.

Should give the girls a bit more tolerance to heat if you can keep their soil temps a bit lower too so I highly suggest getting some form of circulation going and drawing your heat from above and cool air from below...keep the heat flowing the right direction.

I hear Silica can also help the plant deal with higher temps without as much issue.

Hope that helped for now. bongsmilie Will post pics if you still don't understand.

Update night. The girls are loving these purple suns! :bigjoint: This is day 14 of 12/12. Tea's start in 7 days...will be using mostly a compost tea made with mushroom compost, but might do a few with worm castings thrown in first. Both teas will get a tiny amount of molasses before they get 12 hrs of aeration. I will be giving them all their second watering with Great White early next week so the soil should welcome the tea's.

Stakes will be coming out soon to control these girls size and give them support. They have a bit more stretch before I am gonna worry about it.

This is my Big Buddha Cheese tonight.

My Super Lemon Haze has been starting to push the petal to the metal...a beast in the making.

And my new girl to my bloom closet, first time growing her and I like what I see and smell...this is King's Kush. OG Kush x Grape (Ape it is thought).

Very nice, your plants look beautiful. I've never made a tea with mushroom compost, sadly because I can't find any... yet I do make my teas with ewc, kelp, and molasses.

Gotta love teas :bigjoint:

Those things look awesome! How long after your first transplant did you wait to start your LST?

Yeah they are just like dirt flavored water....with bene's added. Mild direct food. I hear good things about EWC teas, but am gonna mostly stick with what is tried and true for this grow. Testing the LED's this time.

Thanks for the compliments! :eyesmoke:

I waited a little over a week before LSTing them...gave them time to recover and get bigger. bongsmilie Thanks for the great vibes!

Excellent, thank you for the thorough description. I actually just set up a very similar exhaust system.

I have the ducting placed right above my lights sucking the hot air out of the room. For now I'm just leaving a small opening through the bottom of the mylar for intake of cool air.
Very similar to what you have set up. It has been keeping temps down about 4 degrees, so a small improvement for me. I swapped out the 290w for another 180w in my grow room. Temps keep around 87 for me now with all the modifications.

Awesome, thanks man. I will be doing the same and since it's been a week today, I'll give them a few extra days before I give the LST a go.

What is your room temp at? One nice thing is I keep my apartment below 70f all the time, until the temps hit the 100's then I am lucky to get it below 78f, but that isn't too often.

I think as long as your cool air is coming in on bottom and the air up top is the hottest, your plants shouldn't complain. Glad you understood my description.

Not a problem, glad I could help.

Been a few days since and update...girls are loving this light. Budding has started on them all but King's Kush is definitely in the lead...will see if that means she harvests before the others.

Here are my girls.

sick grow man!!! i'm about to order 2 of these 290's and I have some fucking kings kush in veg right now too!!! WOOT. how big is your closet? WXL ?

I have 1 1kw light up and room for 1 more, but was thinking of getting these 2 instead of the 1kw... what do you think of them so far? I now 2 won't replace a 1kw, but 3 will (I can do that later once I taste the results myself).

those laidies look healthy as fuck.. What are you feeding them right now? I'm going to go look back in the therad for a feeding schedule or any info, they look great man.

Thanks for the reps brother!!! I really like the lights...I really won't know how they finish the girls right now and I hate to really say.

New experience for me (the LED's)....and a favorable one so far. And my closet is about 2 1/2ft by 6 1/2ft (real close to a 4 x 4 in square ft).

As far as my soil mix, was thinking you wouldn't believe me if I told you Jello...so I went and dug this up.

My total nutrient additions to the below soil mix have been Great White at the beginning of bloom and again last night for two and the other when she needs to drink. I use Superthrive at transplant.

I have been phing my water to 6.5 because the FFOF I used was a bit alkaline and was making my Cheese (semi sensitive to high ph) have leaves with calcium deficiency.

Starting in a few days (end of the third week) they will start getting mushroom compost tea every third watering and I might top dress a bit more steamed bone meal then. That and an occasional molasses watering
will be the extent of what I finish with. My soil mix covers the rest pretty well.

My mix starts with Fox Farms Ocean Forest (any good soil) and then I add 25% Mushroom Compost and 25% Perlite (to lighten the mix).

To that I added in small quantities, nothing pushing max recommended doses, about 1/2 on all the following.

  • Dolomite lime - pelletized for slow ph control and cal/mag

  • Steamed Bone Meal - slow calcium, but mostly phosphates

  • Humic Acid Source (Humate Supreme)

  • Bene/Mychorrizae source (Fox Farms Happy Frog Bloom 1/4 str dose) - just wanted the initial soil additives not so much the fertilizer, so I keep the dose low

  • and Azomite for micro's.

To this I added a full dose of Mater Magic, cheap Dynamite product designed to aid tomatoes to be all they can be and is 100% Organic and timed for 3 months of slow release (great for pot IMO, high calcium). I also added a 1/3 dose of Osmocote Plus to be the inorganic supplement to bloom so every nutrient was there in multiple source.

Note : Mater Magic is no longer made by Dynamite so results may vary...
I plan on finding something different when my other bottle runs out (in a year, cost $4 on sale).

Time for another update.

It is the end of 3 weeks of 12/12 and my girls are all budding up nicely.

And my little patch of dirt.

And the story continues....

Spinning...floating...purple light everywhere...is this a dream? Surrounded by boulders and giant alien structures...purple light pouring down on me....then I realize the truth of it as I gaze upward...I am in my secret patch of dirt under my secret girls, but they are gigantic, like some absurd forest.

As I gaze upward in confusion and wonder I start to notice my most tender girl, my Cheese has the beginnings of a general deficiency starting...did she bring me here to see this.....I sense agreement overwhelming me with calm...what exactly are these alien suns???

Better check her soil...she is always sensitive to drifting ph. Maybe I will give her a small dose of tiny remaining dose of ph buffered nutes I have left, those will push her soil back to where it needs to be....I hope. With no more of these nutes available, I must be sure not to spill even the tiniest dose.

With that thought, I return to myself and am gazing at my little garden and not knowing if what just happened was real or some waking dream, I know I must verify what I seen and sure enough...my little girl is just starting her normal "issue", I wish I would remember to push her ahead of time...this medicine is a precious commodity in keeping "them" away and giving me enough strength to continue to fight "them" the best I can.

With a gentle sigh, I stand and get to work....
I put my lights into their final configuration last night, am hoping to keep stretching the buds by keeping the light at around 18-20 inches from them.

This configuration was planned from when I heard I was getting the lights, figured it would get me the most penetration. Decided it was time.

As you can see below my Cheese is getting some generalized interveinal lightening, from seeing it almost everytime I have grown her she is pissed about her PH (most probably)...I pushed her down harder this time, used some buffered Dutchmaster Gold A&B Bloom nutes at 1/3 strength to push her ph down. They are buffered for 5.8...so should fight the soil issue more effectively than the little bit of ph down can in the water I am using. That is my hope...I hate seeing my girls unhappy, but Cheese does this almost every grow. You would think I would learn and figure out how to fight it before she gets to this point...:dunce:

Here she is this morning right before getting her nute water repair effort. She drank almost the whole gallon.

And the story continues....

I awoke from a medicine aided rest to see this "happening", is like whatever purpose these devices really have is starting to show...snapped this photo of whatever was going on, the camera only captured part of the event...is like the device sent a probe to analyze my medicine or maybe something more sinister...Is it adjusting for my medicine?

That is the thought that seems to hang in the air, not quite certain these thoughts are mine, seems more calm than my thoughts run..maybe these devices are what I hoped! But the more my worries fade the greater this nagging fear grows in the back of my mind...did I really find these, or was I led to them.

I am in some alien experiment?

My only hope is potent properties of the medicine itself will combat whatever "they" are trying to do, if anything...my precious medicine runs low...am I imbibing enough to keep them at bay still?

All these worries must be ones for another day...my girls need put to bed.
