We "lost" some people who refused to get vaccinated at my place of work. We are interviewing some people to replace them. I've been very impressed at the quality of the candidates.

I don't think your example is literally true. If you have someone on their deathbed from whatever disease and then they catch Covid and die, it's still Covid that caused their death, in addition to being a fragile state due to whatever other issues. The thing they did that might seem a bit cheater'ish, was that in the inverse situation where Covid was the underlying condition, they still called it a Covid death if you died of a heart attack, or pneumonia, or some other Covid-created condition. You could argue that it's cherry picking and you wouldn't be entirely wrong, but you wouldn't be entirely right, either. The problem isn't Covid, or cherry picking, the problem is redneck narcissism. This Covid experience has been a good primer, now bring on the real disease, because sometimes the problem is also the solution.

What you're suggesting is that any reduction from optimum, transfers responsibility. If that were remotely true, you could go shove down a fat person and if any bones are broken, you're not responsible, because a lighter person would have been fine. It's a chicken shit argument.

I once worked with some intellectually challenged kids. It was something I did while in college to see if I wanted to work in that field. Chose not to but neither here nor there. The funniest moment I recall from that experience was when one of those kids called one of the other workers "stupid".
