VPD... yes, another thread on it, but with a twist.

there’s some shady processors in this biz.
hell yes there are. im lucky to have the processing hookup that i do. i didnt catch that this happened during outdoor harvest season, thats the perfect storm of suck. i think you can trust the airros to handle your shit now though. if i can run 70% rh all through flower without one and test clean, you should be good to go

Yeah... it was the perfect storm for failure. We've since rescheduled our crops to avoid the Croptober dump. I've been fiddling with the controls in the room, and I think I got it dialed in to Day: Temp 86/ RH 65 and Night: Temp 73/RH 51 as of last night, so that follows the trend line for the chart that @Mont@n@ had posted. I know he had advised a smaller swing in temps, and Im still experimenting with that to get it closer to ~5 degree swing.

there are a ton of vpd charts out there, and most of them differ a bit from each other. i think 10 degrees between night and day is good to go. i run 82-85f and 70%rh, but i have much smaller space and lower ceilings than you do

I don't really have any advice to contribute, just curious: when y'all did fail for mold, was it visible on the finished product? Or did everything look fine visually but fail upon inspection?

Hi, old timer here who sways from spreadsheets when experience suggests otherwise. Just curious how would two exact grows differ if only variable was 55% humidity / 70% humidity for last 2-3 weeks of flower? Would yield suffer so much?
I guess more commercial operation, small numbers become large but no numbers full of mold is no good to anyone.

Looking for some real experience here.

Lights on: Starting temp ~72, ending temp ~84 RH: Starting ~56 ending ~74
Lights off: Starting temp ~84, ending temp ~72 RH Starting ~74 ending ~ 56
Not experienced, but you might put some sensors underneath and inside the canopy if you don't already. With a hygometer inside the canopy you might be a little more brave to raise the humidity if you know what's going on it there.
It is probably colder underneath the canopy causing the humidity to be higher than you want.

I gave up on VPD since I couldn't control it. I'm curious though, do you measure the VPD using leaf temperatures or go by a chart?

We saw a puff of smoke when we cracked open a bud, but just the one, and we inspected a lot. 10,000 CFU's is a pretty low threshold, and you'd prob not see anything at all under 10,000. .. we grew it, and we had to test it. Part of the game.

It was just a bad summer for mold spores.... mushrooms growing everywhere outside. We prob just brought it in on one of us and once it gets in there, if you don't have a microbe scrubber (AirROS)... it's gonna find a home in your buds and grow.

I use hygrometers everywhere.. I think I have 6 in different places along with the Spartan at the canopy. I try to find an average on everything, but the Spartan seems to be the most accurate. I do hit the leaves with an IR meter to monitor where they are. I can control VPD, but I got a full room this time, and as you know, it's alot of work to fail at the lab.... just trying to find my comfort level with how far I can push VPD into flower and pass labs... If we fail a whole room.... I'd prob throw up. But!... I think the AirROS will do it's job, as long as I do mine. :) Thankfully, that failed round was an experiment, and I was only running one tray, and not 3.

I guess I'll have to look into the AirROS equipment.
If you do, gimme a shout. I can hook you up with a guy there that is one of the best people ive ever dealt with as far as customer service and follow up goes... He'll stick with you through the whole set up, monitoring process, call you from his cell, etc.... great guy!

I’ve been thinking about that Air0S system as well, but getting some quest first. Have you ever heard of a product called pro Kure? They have 3 different versions. They have two products s has and liquid to clean rooms in between runs. And a time release o be used during runs. So far I’ve been doing really well and feel the rooms are staying clean. But no testing to back it up.
Another brand of same product is gard n clean.

I experimented with putting a plant in with the fast release gas over night as well when I was cleaning my room. There was no mold present on the plant at the time but I was just seeing if it would kill the plant cause I had been told you could use it during a run if had mold problems. The plant was fine, granted it was just a medium sized veg plant but it didn’t bother it at all.

Nope.. never heard of ProKure... It it a triaxidane generator? (H203).. I was using Physan20 to clean my room as a liquid, but my rep from AirROS said I can put that stuff and anything else away, that the system would take care of all molds, pathogens, bacteria, etc.... and I do have labs to back up thier claims. This run is gonna be a nail bitter tho. Im gonna run VPD all the way through and then see what the labs say. (nervously bites nails)

No it’s a type of chlorine gas. They have a nice website just google pro Kure and click on cultivation.

Nice thread, sorry to hear about your failed test.
Did you do a run with VPD all the way thru to see if it passed?
I'm also curious about what VPD I should be running at, been checking the charts, just trying to get my humidity I check during lights out

.

I have an airROS as well, zero smell in my tent.

Aaron what do you have your's set at? I started with the recommended 25% power but had a couple of pm grows so I bumped it up to 75%.

There's another controller for control of something that I'm not sure about - recommended start setting at 3% and for scrubbing the tent between grows and bump it up to 100% overnight.

Any hints you could give me about running the unit would be appreciated.

I have ran 2 runs following VPD all the way to the end… passed labs both times. The first run I had zero microbes detected, the last run passed, but did detect microbes… I’m 100% sure this is because I wasn’t paying attention, and my chambers life cycle had passed, and the unit wasn’t running as efficiently as it should. I was getting zero H203 readings during lights on after going back and looking at the data on the sd card. They sent out a replacement overnight. It wasn’t generating H203 for about 2 weeks. (Check your panel everyday!) Anyways, I’m sure if I would have caught that, I would have had labs with “none detected”.

As long as you’re getting readings of around 30ppb, you’re fine. It really helps if you use a stylus pen to make accurate adjustments. My room is bigger, so I start out at 75% Power Factor, and see if I’m high or low on the ppb. If I see consistent 35 ppb, I’ll drop the Power Factor down to 65 or so. If I’m getting low 20’s, I’ll adjust accordingly.
