what are those balls ppl grow in?

obviously its not soil. ive seen ppl with their plants in like... rocks....

how does that work? any1 tell me abit about it? if no1 knows what i mean ill get a pic

those rooting rocks used instead of soil for hydroponic units

they are clay balls

whats there benefits? can they only be used in hyro units?

I dont really know much bout hydro but yeah I think u can use clay balls for it tho i think a mix of perlite vermikulite and clay balls is better. But like i said i dont kno hydro I still use soil and perlite mix as i think less can go wrong and if it does its easier to fix.
